At what point in the first game would you say Ellie and Joel first start to bond?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 03:39 PM PDT

I'll say it's around the ending of Bill's Town (Joel can say to Ellie that he thinks she's doing a good job, after she finds the truck, and then in the cutscene at the end of the chapter he says to Bill "you gotta admit, she did hold her own back there". Also in the first fight with the Hunters in Pittsburgh, Joel asks Ellie if she's okay afterwards.

And also I think he starts to trust her a lot more in the cutscene in Pittsburgh where he gives her the rifle gun while he takes out the Hunters.

    Ellie’s flashbacks

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 08:49 PM PDT

One thing that's always been my favourite part of part II is how you can use Ellie's flashbacks/dreams of Joel to measure how far gone she is in her obsession. It starts off on a lighter note, but with each passing day the flashbacks (obviously) reveal how their relationship deteriorated and become darker. It's side by side with Ellie unable to draw Joel until finally all she has to do is look at her bleeding hand on the beach to see his body.

That's why I love at the end where we get Ellie about to drown Abby, thinking finishing her off will make it all stop, when she finally remembers Joel in a lighter way, just playing his guitar. And then we get that hopeful, bittersweet final conversation that the game ends on which to me not only shows the fans that they were about to repair their relationship but also shows that Ellie is finally ready to face herself and her journey to heal.

I love this game so much.

It’s 3AM, I’m just chilling in my bed, and I just realized some hilarious foreshadowing

When Abby and Manny visit Mel in the hospital after their encounter with the Scars, you can talk to that one guy from the reinforcements that saved you who ended up getting shot in the hand. When he talks about losing his fingers, Manny quips "you only need 3, am I right?"

I don't know Manny, why don't you ask Ellie?

TLOU2 The name of the archer in hillcrest is “Boris Legasov” - Chernobyl reference?

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 04:19 PM PDT

As it happens I was on a Chernobyl binge on the same day I was playing through the hillcrest level on Seattle Day 2. Right when you start off you start picking up notes about this guy Boris whose daughter was brutalized by the WLF. In the guy's basement you find an archery trophy with the name "Boris Legasov" on it.

The two main characters in the Chernobyl HBO show are Boris and Legasov. I haven't looked but wouldn't be surprised if some of the Chernobyl people are working on the TLOU show on HBO. In any event, anybody else think this is a reference to Chernobyl the show? The game and the show only came out a year apart though.
