TLOU2 utilizes some sort of fake light bounce system and it's actually really impressive: Posted: 27 Aug 2021 12:44 PM PDT I recently got a PS4, decided to get Dreams and TLOU2 as my first games on it. While playing TLOU2, I knew it was a technical marvel, but I didn't expect there to be actual light bouncing systems at work. A PS4 can't support raytracing, but if you shine your flashlight on any vivid color (mainly in dark areas) some light will bounce in the surroundings with that color. I'm not really sure how Naughty Dog did this, since there's no way they're calculating individual rays. I think they handcrafted extra lights for many objects so it creates an illusion of light bouncing. That's just my theory. But anyway, it's extremely impressive the tech and graphics on display for a PS4 title. And on top of that it runs at a stable framerate for the most part. Honestly, just impressed by how the devs got around raytracing and made it look just as natural. I've played Metro Exodus enhanced edition and Control both with max ray tracing, and TLOU2 isn't as good but definitely still holds its ground when it comes to lighting, even if it's an illusion. Now, a year later, a review of tlou2, by me, nobody (full of spoilers) Posted: 27 Aug 2021 09:14 PM PDT All right, i had watched some streams i kinda knew the story before playing, but it's been a year so i had forgotten most of it by now, so i could enjoy the twists and surprises. First, something polemic: this game should never have been made. This is of course my personal opinion. The first game was glorious, it was a perfecto 10/10 with an ending that benefited from being open. There was absolutly no way this game could have reached the expectations. Maybe if the story was about something completly unrelated to Joel and Ellie, maybe even we could have heard something of them in the background, while playing a completly new story. Idk Second: not a biiiig problem, but the pacing is weird, and it could be better. I don't know how it could be better, but it could. There were moments too fast, moments too slow, it felt kinda weird sometimes. It specially felt long in some moments of abby story, at the beginning and at the ending. The open game moments with ellie are too close and are too big. Third, and this Is the big one. My biggest problem with the game is that is too dark, too cruent, in a way the first game wasn't. I'm not talking about Joel, that's actually pretty good, makes sense for the story. I'm talking about the ending. The first game gave us constantly a bittersweet sensation. You know, ellie gets a friend, it turns into a zombie, etc etc. It's a kinda happy story in a fucked up world. Here, we have a fucked up story in a fucked up world. The best example is abby's climax when she is fighting this guy in the fire trying to save Lev. It's bloody and gore in a way the first game wasn't (and it was plenty Gore). Close ups to a face destroyed by fire and a knife feels like a cheap trick. And of course, we have the ending. In the first game we had a bittersweet ending. You could be happy for joel and ellie, because they probably had a happy ending together, or you could be sad because the cure wasn't made. It was a moral dilemma, you could actually think what you would have done. Here, you don't get a moral dilemma, you just get two people ruining their and each other lifes. They are both full of revenge, and there is no bittersweet ending, it's just bitter. Abby and Lev got tortured for months and ellie left everything for revenge juste to find out at the last moment that it wasn't what she needed. And lost two fingers which again i feel like it's gore with no meaning. Same with abby's change of body. Maybe the last one just got me personally, i'm sensitive to that level of torture. It's a sad ending, and that last joel cutscene altough being nice, it doesn't fix it in any way. On the contrary, it makes it almost worse If i could change something about this game, i would have ended it in the farm chapter, just after ellie's panic attack, but i would put tommy scene before. That way, we get ellie with a kinda happy ending, but still tortured with the desire of revenge and the traumatic events of seattle. Bittersweet. The shame is we don't get to know ellie and joel were maybe gonna make up (that would be to happy with this ending) and we don't know what happened to Lev and abby. My review Is 8,5/10. Gameplay Is absolutly perfect, story is really really good, could be better in some ways. Maybe 9/10. Your comments are welcome Also, when abby calls the fireflies using the radio, someone answers. Is he really a firefly, or is a rattler pretending to be a firefly? Do we know? Because if it's a ratler, he said to her to go somewhere specific, wich Is weird because almost instantly other ratlers took her. Idk i'm curious [link] [comments] |
