Do you think TLOU2 is "fun"?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 11:57 AM PDT

I'm really loving the game so far, but can you ever describe it as "fun"?

The whole game is a bummer, and the murders are all so brutal. I'm not sure how I would describe this kind of game. I tell my wife "if you want to play a cold bleak hopeless world, give it a shot"

    Ellie’s Forgiveness

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 05:27 PM PDT

I've seen many people say Ellie forgave Joel through Abby by letting her go at the end, but that never made exact sense to me.

Abby becomes the focus of all Ellie's rage for obviously harming Joel, but deep down Ellie is most mad at herself for punishing him while he was alive. What Ellie truly couldn't sleep with is that he died without her showing how much she cared for him.

So I think the person Ellie was really chasing after out of anger that whole time was herself, therefore the person she forgives in that moment is herself for not having let go of that grudge against Joel. She finally lets their last tender conversation come to the forefront over images of pain.

Just in love with this song♥️

I just found out what the main menu after you beat the game means.

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 11:35 AM PDT

I don't know if this is common knowledge but I didn't understand it until I was told so yeah. When Abby is talking on the radio to fireflies they described a building on Catalina island, many think that these fireflies were actually the rattlers trying to lure potential slaves but the building described is not the slave storage building in the resort, it's the Catalina casino, they look kind of similar but if you compare the two you can tell they're different. That's why when Abby left after her fight with Ellie she didn't head inland to the resort, she went to the fireflies on Catalina island. The building on the main menu after you finish the game is Catalina island, saying that Abby and lev found the fireflies.

If you choose to hate on this series because you didn’t like Part II, grow up

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 08:27 PM PDT

    Let me clarify a bit.

I really like Part II, but I also understand why some people didn't like it. That it didn't work for them, and that they felt robbed, and felt like ND could've done better, I get it. But for a lot of those people, they say that "the second game had ruined the first game" for them (this isn't the case for all of them, but I've still seen quite a few people say this). And while that doesn't really make sense to me, it's whatever. For some people it can be like that, like with Game of Thrones, so I can see why some people feel that way. But a lot of them still cherish the first game for the masterpiece it is.

But as I was browsing THAT subreddit (I go there every now and then to read opinions on the game, I just find it interesting) and came across a couple of comments about how they hope this series fails, how they're not gonna watch it, hate on the casting, and of course, the adamant hate towards Neil Druckmann.

I'm very open minded when it comes to other's opinions. I will always try to see it from there point of view instead of mindlessly arguing because "my opinion better". But the hate towards the HBO show before it's even out is kinda bugging me. I get skepticism, I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little skeptical, but hate for the series with very little information (as of now) because you didn't like the second game? I mean, c'mon. Now let's look at some of the arguments that were made that led me to post about this

Part I Hope for the series to fail

This ones pretty self explanatory. The haters want to see the HBO series fail because they hated TLOU II (and also because Neil is head of the project but I'll touch on that in a bit). Now seven years of build up that lead to disappointment can, of course, alter ones thoughts about the series and the people who made the game. This led to people just straight up not trusting Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann with another game. They are mad because they put their Trust in Naughty Dog… BUT if anything, they should be mad that they put their trust in the build up/hype.

Hype is a hell of a way to ruin something for you if it doesn't meet your expectations. One of the fairly recent examples of this is Cyberpunk 2077. This game had more hype than TLOU II and then some, and it turned out to be a buggy, unfinished mess. I remember so many people literally pumped up, ready to stay up late, take off work for this game because that's how hyped up it got. It released, people were disappointed, and now I see little to no news about Cyberpunk these days. It's completely alright to be excited for something, but there are limits. I never once thought Part II was gonna be the greatest game of all time because Part I was amazing. All it takes is patience. Maybe the HBO series will be great. Maybe it'll suck. I'm not sure yet. Let's just wait and see

Part II How they refuse to watch it

This one can make sense. I can see how people would be afraid that the show might make too many changes from the original source material for their liking, like The Last Airbender, so they won't watch it. However, I don't think that seems to be the case. Well, MOST of the case. This ties back to not supporting it because of it creators; Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann. Which is just bullshit. These people have made numbers of quality titles, in graphics and in story telling, but they made ONE game that not everyone agrees with and suddenly they're shit? No! Let them put out several shitty games first for it to be true. My point being, I trust Naughty Dog

Now I know this looks like I'm contradicting myself with what I said in Part I, but I don't think I am. For example, I trust Fromsoftware and Miyazaki with the Souls series, I trust Santa Monica and Cory Barlow with God of War, and I trust Naughty and Neil with the games (and/or shows) they want to make. And with the HBO series, I don't think it's fair to boycott the show because of who's behind the scenes. Neil helped creat Uncharted 4, he helped create The Last of Us, and now he's getting help from very talented people to make the HBO series. And with help from Craig Mazin, creator of the Chernobyl miniseries, I'd say the shows in good hands.

    Part III Neil Druckmann

Let's not beat around the bush here, haters hate this guy. They don't hate him he kicked a child, they don't hate him because he tweeted an inappropriate joke in 2012 even though the culture at that time would have deemed that appropriate but cancel culture is off the rails and something needs to be done or humor as we know it might cease to exis-

They hate him for his writing. Which if you're judging based off of TLOU II, I can see how one could argue that the writing in the second game seems weaker in the first game. But naw. It's never that simple. They are straight up cooling Neil a bad writer. Period. So does that mean TLOU I is bad? Does that mean Uncharted 4 is bad? Cuz he wrote both, and since he's a bad writer that means those two games are bad, right?

Also, when people are working on something they're passionate about, they usually have a vision. Like artists, musicians, writers, every single one envisions what they want and how they want to do it. They might not please everyone, in fact they won't please everyone. But as long as they're doing what they want, the way they want, the least you can do is respect it.

    And finally

Part IV They hate the casting

Don't. Just don't. People can be surprising. They might not be what you wanted, they might not be exactly how the character looks in the game, but that's not what their selling point need to be. As long as they can give a performance that stays true to the characters that were portrayed way back in 2013, then that's all I need to say. (Also I saw a comment that was racist towards the actor for Sarah in the HBO series. And to that I say; grow the fuck up)

Well I think that's it. If you read this far, thank you for taking the time out of your day/night to read it to completion. And I know I'm gonna get a lot of people disagreeing with me, and that's fine. I'm not trying to state what I say as fact. If you don't like it, just think of it as some internet douchebags rant.

    Thank you for reading

What quotes from TLOU1 and 2 could you also say during sex?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 12:51 PM PDT

    Just two I thought of:

    1. "What's your name?"

    2. While you're doing the deed, Jessie busts in and starts tearing his clothes off while saying: "You think I'd let you do this on your own?"

    Surround effects in TLOU2

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 06:10 PM PDT

I recently got a soundbar with rear speakers and I got to say that combining it with grounded difficulty adds a significant amount of thrills to this great game.

Clickers are a little bit easier to be located but also whole infected gang is scarier now.

The wind and other environment sounds are closer and the dialogues from distant are distinguishable.

I will have to replay first one someday and compare those. Maybe even some older titles from PS3 to see (or rather hear) what I lost over the years playing on stereo.

What are your thoughts on the surround implementation overall?

    Forgiving

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 10:19 PM PDT

I've been playing The Last of Us again. I think in part 2 when Ellie shuts Joel out after learning what he did. There could have been a flash back to when he finds her killing David. That moment shows how much he cares and everything he does for her. She might feel less conflicted after he dies if she forgave him.

[NO SPOILERS] I’m curious as to who all of you want to play Tess in the HBO show?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 09:10 AM PDT

Personally I want them to bring back Annie Wersching to play her original character. because she looks just like tess and shes a phenomenal actor. Also, given that they brought Merle Dandridge back to play Marlene again, i dont think my hopes are too bold lol. Who does everyone want to play Tess?

    If Abby had stopped…?

    Posted: 21 Jul 2021 11:31 AM PDT

Ellie begs Abby not kill Joel after she spent at least half an hour beating him. My question is what would happen if Abby had decided that just torturing and beating Joel was enough and decided not to deliver that final blow to his head, would he have even survived? He got his knee blown off with the shotgun so I'd imagine he would never walk again, but do you think he would survive if they rushed him back and gave him medical attention immediately? I feel as if he would succumb to his injuries anyway and Abby killing him right there would've been better than letting him suffer an hour or so longer.
