Plenty of people know that Bill sharpening his machete in the basement was improvised by W. Earl Brown. Lesser known though, the tiny argument him and Joel have about someone stealing Bill's shit, Troy and Earl improvised that entire tiny argument! Two very talented people, so quick witted!

    Ellie’s Character Arc and Motivations

    Posted: 30 May 2021 07:13 PM PDT

Better title: Why Ellie Spared Abby

    (Giant wall of text warning)

After I finished TLOU2, I had a lot of thoughts going around in my head. I thought about it a lot, I saw what other people thought, and eventually I compiled all the thoughts I had seen and thought and believed here.

Ellie spared Abby for complex reasons.

Firstly, she was already weak and had been tortured. Abby had endured more pain than Ellie was ever going to give to her. She was about to let Abby and Lev leave, before she remembered Joel's state before he died. bloodied and beaten after being tortured for hours. That triggered her to start the fight.

Secondly, and the more important reason is Ellie's arc throughout the game, and her relationship with Joel. Before the game starts, Ellie and Joel have a really rough relationship. Ellie found out the horrible things Joel had done for her, and resented him for it. Because of what he did, she felt like her life didn't have purpose anymore. But, right before he died, their relationship changed.

Ellie flashes back to her and Joel's last conversation. Joel told her how much he loves her and how if he had the chance he would "do it all over again." She told him she wanted to try to forgive him. Because of that daughterly love she had for him, when he died she became enraged. She and Tommy started hunting down Joel's killers and murdered most of them. Ellie goes into a downward spiral of rage and anguish because she is mad and she thinks it is what Joel would do for her.

When Joel saved Ellie in the first game, he saved her because he loved her, and he wanted her to live a happy life. Ellie believes that her life needs to end to be meaningful throughout the entire first game, so in between the games, when she begins to enjoy her life in Jackson, she feels guilty. She doesn't feel like living this life is ok because of she thought her life needed to be for so long. When she begins living on the farm, she gets flashes of the horrible images she saw and she eventually leaves, because she doesn't think she is worthy of normal living. She thinks the only purpose in life she can fulfill, and is worthy of fulfilling is killing Joel's murderers.

Although it isn't mentioned in the game, I want to bring up Joel's words from the end of TLOU1. Ellie took Joel's "You keep finding something to fight for" to heart during this period, but she takes it in the wrong way. When Joel said it, he was referring to protecting the beauty of certain aspects of life, like the human relationship he had with Ellie. The way Ellie seems to use it is to actively fight for revenge, and more suffering. At times, she fights just to see the pain and suffering of other people, something that Joel never did.

In the end, through this flashback she realizes why Abby did what she did. She realizes the life she gave up to chase this rage. She accepts what Joel did the things he did for her out of love even if it was really messed up, and she realizes how she has become even worse than he ever was through this revenge. And in the end, she doesn't kill Abby. I don't think it was out of forgiveness. I don't think she could ever forgive Joel's killer. I think it's out of acceptance, regret, and the wanting to stop the cycle of death and vengeance.

Ellie pays the price for her horrible actions by losing her fingers and therefore losing guitar, one of her last connections to Joel. After that, she leaves the guitar behind and walks off. I think that the final ending scene is supposed to represent the mistakes that Ellie made cost her a lot, but also the fact that past mistakes are not the end. Ellie walking away represents the possibility of her life, and her leaving the items behind show her moving on from a part of her life she may want to forget now. A bittersweet part of her life. Although she will always remember Joel, that part of her life is a painful memory of all the mistakes she made.

    Details I Found During Abby's Day 1

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:09 AM PDT

I'm back everyone with the first of Abby's three days in Seattle. I think this one was the day I was most looking forward to because I had never done a deep dive of The Stadium, and that alone is what made me want to run a fine tooth comb over Seattle. I am gonna take a day or two before I go back in for Day 2, because Day 2 for Abby just drags for me and I don't really like stopping half way through when I do these.

As a note: I am not counting the early flashbacks to finding Abby's Dad and all of that in Abby's Day 1, because the game doesn't count it as part of her Day 1. It will be looked through when I do my post about details I found in all of the flashbacks, as will the other two flashbacks in this section.

Without further ado, let's get into it:

    • This has been talked about a bit but the book Abby was reading the night before Day 1 is City of Thieves by David Benioff. One of the characters in this book is named Lev.

    • As a general note, the stadium the WLF are using is the real stadium of the Seattle Seahawks. At the time of the outbreak, it would've been called CenturyLink Field in real life. Now IRL, it's called Lumen Field. It's also home to the Seattle Sounders MLS Franchise, and it was home to the Seattle Dragons of the XFL, but the XFL suspended play at the beginning of the COVID-19 and haven't returned to play. Basically, all of the training equipment the WLF are using would've been state of the art even before the outbreak, but they're even moreso post-Outbreak Day.

    • When you get to the hall where Manny greets the teacher, you can see there are two classrooms on either side of you. One classroom, the one belonging to the teacher Manny knows, is more of a traditional classroom. The kids are sitting at desks, and the kids are receiving a lecture. On your left, the class is examining and growing plants.

    • Much like Jackson, the stadium also has community corkboards to spread messages or establish some sort of schedule.

    • One of the corkboards in the hallways, there's a poster for The Super Star of the Month. Seems to be like a top student award. Anyway, the star of the month at this time is a boy named Luca, who's favorite color is Sky Blue, loves potatoes and science. Kid also kinda looks like an older version of a kid we see later in the game too. Maybe it's a coincidence.

    • WLF class schedule this week seems to be: Infection Check on Monday, Toy Clean Up on Tuesday and Thursday, a Piano Recital on Wednesday, and an early release is scheduled for that Friday.

    • You can only trigger the conversation with Jordan by walking past him. If you spot him first, nothing happens until you walk by him.

    • It looks like the main stations within the WLF mess hall are: a washing station for plates and utensils (first station on your right), a butcher's station (across from the washing station), a station for bathroom essentials such as soap (past the doors, over towards where all the clothes are), and a cooking station (to the left of the butcher's station). There's an optional conversation over by the bathroom essentials station where Abby will ask about getting a bar of soap.

    • If you get in line for the burritos before you talk to Manny's Dad, you can't go back and talk to Manny's Dad afterwards.

    • Here are some screenshots of the Lost and Found community corkboard that's found in the mess hall.

    • When going upstairs with Manny, you can walk up the stationary escalators instead of the normal stairs.

    • Here's a bit of a continuity error if the fictional sports teams in the world of TLOU are based on their IRL counterparts: when you go upstairs, you see a picture of the Seattle Orcas holding a championship trophy, and one player is holding a newspaper with the front page declaring them champions. If this team is based on the Seahawks, this is an error. The Seahawks have one Super Bowl championship in their history, which they won on February 2, 2014. That's 130 days after Outbreak Day. Ultimately, this isn't a huge deal, it's a fictional team so they can change things up. But as a sports fan, I found it interesting.

    • I have no way of proving this, but one of these apartments has the name Zachary Saunders on it. This might be the same Zachary who had been converting Gray to the Scars? Like maybe this guy was a Wolf, defected to the Scars, then began converting former Wolves? I don't know, and again I can't really prove it, but I felt it warranted a mention.

    • Inside Abby and Manny's apartment, Manny has four license plates hanging up in his area. They're from New Mexico, Nevada, California, and Arizona. He also has a few black and white photographs up as well. He's also a huge fan of anime. And he has a lot of camera equipment on his shelves. Didn't get everything, but ehere's a few screenshots.

    • A new IRL book title has appeared: Abby owns a copy of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Here are a few shots of her area of the room.

    • Didn't screencap these for some reason, but Abby has a picture of her Dad on her nightstand, and she has some of the Jazz-centric posters from her Dad's office on the top of her bunk bed.

    • One of the adboards going across the stadium is for the Seattle Waterfront Aquarium.

    • The WLF has a ton of food. It might be hard to really tell from these screenshots, but they've got everything from meat to potatoes to fruit to vegetables.

    • Here's a bit of a wide shot of the livestock the WLF are raising.

    • Here's a screenshot of the WLF's Dog Kennel corkboard. Notice the name of the dog in Kennel 3.

    • This one is for the "yOuRe FoRcEd To pEt DoGs" crowd: the first instance you get to pet a dog is completely optional. You do not even need to pick up the tennis ball if you don't want to. Just walk towards the exit.

    • The WLF soldier who has their feet kicked up and greets Abby is reading a book called The Riddle of the Sands by Eskrine Childers. The book that's face down on the table is A Tale of Two Cities.

    • This is a huge WLF memoriam mural for those they've lost.

    • I wasn't able to get a clear look at the clipboard Abby signs before joining Manny by the shooting range, but I did catch that the last person to check a vehicle out before Abby seems to have been Owen.

    • The shooting range segment is optional. You can collect the ammo and just go to the truck if you feel.

    • This may be specific to lower difficulties, but you can get through the Scar ambush without firing a single shot as Abby.

    • If you don't immediately join Manny and Mel in the warehouse, Manny will yell at you to hurry up "before those freaks catch up."

    • You do not have to shoot the clicker that comes after you when the hardware store shelf falls on top of Abby. Alice will save you no matter what.

    • A lot of you guys pointed this one out in my Day 2 Ellie post, so this is for all of you guys: Mel's resistance to Abby and Manny's indifference or downright acceptance of killing Scar children is foreshadowing of her decision to leave for Santa Barbara. However, back on Ellie's Day 2, there was a note from Ji-So addressed to Melissa that was encouraging Melissa's group to leave with Ji-So's group to Santa Barbara. This letter is likely addressed to our Mel, suggesting that Mel was done with the WLF well before Owen and Abby came to that realization.

    • If you look up at Mel as she's walking across the beam in the boat repair shop, she'll just ask you to come up once unlocking the door. However, if you don't, she'll make a comment about you not looking up.

    • During the optional conversation that Mel and Abby have about obsessions they have, I noticed that if you are having Abby wind the rope/cable together during this conversation, Abby will actually stop interacting with the cable for a split second when she begins to talk, or when she wants to make a point.

    • Not specific to any of these days and more specific to Abby, but when she is really high up, the edges of her vision become blurred and she begins hyperventilating if you look down. Fear of heights.

    • If you loot the abandoned trailer before finding the gun cache after the boat repair shop area, Abby will relay the fact that there might be a gun cache in the area.

    • There's a conversation you can hear once you get to the FOB where one WLF soldier mentions that Nick was leading a group to the Serevena Base to collect the gas. "They're running a little late, but they should be back tonight." the soldier says.

    • There are a few instances where, as Abby, you can see the sky bridges. Here are the two that I caught, but there may be more.

    • Nora mentions that she was shipping out to the hospital "in a few" to Manny. It does seem as if the sun is beginning to set at this point, so I suppose maybe she spent the night at the hospital before Ellie showed up the next day?

    • You can find a note just before meeting Isaac from a Sgt. Foster, who says that based on information from "#74", "the southern shore may be our best bet." This is a reference to Isaac's planned assault on the Scar island.

    • Couldn't get a clear shot of it, but I believe the guard in front of the elevator that alerts Isaac to your arrival was reading something related to Savage Starlight.

    • After you and Manny part ways at the gate, you can turn around and watch him go back up through that apartment building where he has his discreet sex den.

    • At Martyr's Gate, you can read the notes left behind by the Scars that visit the area. Things that are asked of the Prophet are as follows: Unnamed Scar #1 asks for peace with the Wolves, unnamed Scar #2 wants to rejoin hunts a new steed with a saddle and bridle, US #3 asks for the ability to be productive with their hands so they can contribute to the community's mending, forging, and building efforts, US #4 asks to be as to "live long enough to see your salvation spread across this land," US #5 asks for prosperity and strength, and US #6 asks to be paired with Edmund because "he is strong and capable." This Scar "longs to bear his children."

    • This was really cool. I was going through the first Scar combat section immediately after Martyr's Gate. Usually, I go through this section by sneaking my way into the building with invisible while prone on and then picking everyone off. This run through, I've got IWP off because the buzz noise annoys me. So I went prone in the tall grass, and the first enemy I killed was a sharpshooter that had the high ground. After I cleared the area, Abby comments "the sharp shooter was in that building, there must be a way there." which is not something I have had happen. She just says "there must be a way through here."

    • When you get to the area where Abby originally gets her shotgun (there will be a dead guy with shotgun ammo here if you're on NG+), if you go to the right, you can see the ferris wheel in the distance. And if you hit R3, Abby will acknowledge it and comment on how she needs to get down to the street.

    • The Scar workbench has an oil lamp next to it instead of a traditional lamp.

    • The scene where the Seraphite leader has the knife to Abby's stomach has been talked about because we can see a small trail of blood from where the tip of the knife penetrated her skin. In continuity, I can report that the tip of the knife the Seraphite was using is covered in blood.

    • When the Seraphite leader shoots into the forest in a vain attempt to hit Lev, you can actually see him running in the background.

    • The Seraphite Brute with Abby's backpack is the same Brute that Abby bit off a piece of their ear earlier before she was knocked out.

    • This has been pointed out time and time again but is such a stunning bit of detail that I need to reiterate: Abby has a red mark on her neck from the rope the Seraphites but around it to hang her. And this mark is present throughout her days in Seattle at least. She also has marks around her wrists too.

    • The garage door that leads into the WPL shipping facility that Abby opens on Day 2 when going back for Lev is not able to be opened on the night of Day 1.

    • The plank that Abby sets down at the very beginning of Day 2 is visible on Day 1 when attempting to jump across a collapsed highway during the home stretch to the aquarium.

    • At the aquarium, the duffel bag Ellie finds Owen's Firefly pendant in is not in the room it Abby drops into on Day 1.

    • You can see the Christmas decorations and the archery mini-game materials from the Christmas flashbacks stored in plastic bins in this room.

    • Also in this room are jars of what looks like beans and maybe spices, as well as a crate of potatoes and a crate of broccoli.

Hope you all enjoyed. Also, want to get early opinions on this now: would you guys be interested in these sorts of posts for The Last of Us Remastered? I don't know exactly how I'd divide those posts up, but if it's something you guys are interested in seeing, I'll figure it out and do a deep dive into Part I as well. Let me know, and I'll see you guys soon for Day 2.

    Posted: 30 May 2021 10:19 PM PDT

Hi everyone. I'm traveling to Jackson tomorrow and I wanted to ask what locations in the game that I should look for real-life counterparts for. I know that the street Joel lived on in Part II is a real street, so I'll probably drive through that part of town. I'll also probably head to Teton Village as well. Do any other locations come to mind?

The last of us 2 was the best game I've played in years

    Posted: 30 May 2021 02:02 AM PDT

The last of us 2 was amazing, it simply was. The gameplay and the world-builiding were all simply sublime. But that's not the reason I love the game. The characters and the story made me fall in love with this game.

Now this part will have A LOT OF SPOILERS. Be warned

This game broke my damn heart. When Joel died I was a little bit sad. As someone who hadn't played neither TLOU 1 or 2 but had watched them both, I already knew that Joel would die. Now just to clarify real quick, I watched the entirety of TLOU 1 on youtube but only watched TLOU 2 until they left Jackson before stopping. The thing that really broke my damn heart was Ellie.

The ending of the game, when you go to Santa Barbara, is one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever had to play through. Seeing how Ellie truly lost herself trying to get revenge for Joel, it was heartbreaking. She gave up everything in her quest for vengence and in the end, all she was left with was the sobering reality. Joel was dead, Dina and peanut weren't wating for her to come home and worst of all she had lost everything. She became a monster in order to find a way to cope with Joels death. And in the end, it didn't matter.

Everything concerning Ellie through out the entirety of this masterpiece of a game was so amazingly well done. I've never cared about a character like I've cared about Ellie during her journey.

Also I would like to talk about Abby. You may think that I hate Abby because she caused Ellie so much suffering and pain. I don't. I don't hold a single shred of hatred for Abby. I actually really like her. I loved her arc through out the story, I loved her relationship with Lev. Some people may hate her for killing Joel, I don't. I can safely say that if I were in Abbys shoes and someone killed my dad, I would probably have wanted to seek vengence towards the one who had done it.

Overall TLOU 2 is a game which captured me and my full attention through out the game with it's amazing characters, gameplay, enviorment, world-building and story. I am truly greatful that I was able to experience this game to it's fullest. And dear god I damn near cried at the end, and I'm not someone who cries very easily. Also Joel singing future days is so damn heartbreaking but still so damn good.

    Just finished DAY 2

    Posted: 30 May 2021 05:20 PM PDT

So I've been posting my experience of this game as I get further and further and some people have asked me to keep it up which is what I'm doing. Now this is my "immediate reaction" I literally just finished "DAY 2".

So let's start with the "small stuff".

Let's see.. oh finally met the "Scars" which I think are a religious cult? Might be wrong don't know much else about them apart from they don't mess around especially the big guy, took me 2 shots to the head with my handgun, a direct hit from a molotov, and a shotgun blast to the face, makes sense lol.

Bloaters weren't that hard to deal with in part 1 (at least on normal difficulty) 2 molotovs and I was good BUT NOW, you're gonna need a lot more.

"Stalkers" they're new, nothing special though.

Finally got my bow and I gotta say the reticle is so much better then it was in part 1. Also explosive arrows are not to be messed with, good addition.

I did a lot of looting like A LOT, A LOT and even if I wasn't one of those players that checks every corner (which I am) this "DAY" really forced you to loot, and also think, some obstacles required me to use my head, which is cool.

I think that's all the "small stuff" let's get into "big".

JESSE! what a lad, don't you think? Although not so durable. He was around for like 5 seconds until he was DONE lol. But those 5 seconds did include one hell of a fight sequence and whilst I did miss almost every shot in the car it was a lot of fun. Jesse really cares for his friends and I really hope he plays more of a part later on. BTW he reminds me of Henry from part 1, let's hope he doesn't meet the same fate.

We finally see Tommy again although it was in a flashback but he had company, JOEL "MY GUY" MILLER it's so good to see him again and it seems these flashbacks are gonna keep going throughout the game, I mean I would've preferred to see him in present TIME RATHER THEN HIM GETTING KILLED BY A BUNC-- I need to calm down, it's still raw. Anyway, Ellie is still not convinced, she can't help but think Joel's lying about what happened with the Fireflies even 2 years after it happened and he's not budging with his lie. It's hard, she deserves to know the truth but the truth might mean Joel's loses her. Also it was cool to see Tommy and Ellie bond.

What else? OH NORA, damn girl... sorry. I love how Naughty Dog setup the moment right before Ellie tortures Nora, not the torture itself lol the events leading up to it in the hospital, it was genius and thrilling to play through. But yeah the torture was rough, Ellie's quest for revenge is taxing on her and not just physically, it shows even more how much Joel meant to her, and she's not stopping anytime soon. Also it's already been spoiled for me but another hint has been revealed as to why they did what they did to, J- him and my brain is like "yeah starting to see why" but my heart is like "STFU BRAIN THEY KILLED JOEL SCREW EM, MUST KILL ABBY", so... yeah.

THEN FINALLY THE CATS OUT OF THE BAG, this is the moment I've been waiting for ladies and gentleman. In the second flashback of the "DAY" the truth is revealed and how? THIS GIRL WENT ALL THE WAY TO BOSTON HOSPITAL, note to self, you cannot keep anything from Ellie, she'll find out sooner or later. Joel is forced to finally tell the truth and it genuinely looked like Ellie was about to have a heart attack, it was a heavy scene, a great one. She tells him "we're done" but I know that's not true 'cuz the day before Joel di- left this world, it seemed they had a fun night at the bar and were planning on watching a movie together later. Can't wait to see the scene where they make up.

I've also started to really appreciate the combat improvements from part 1.

But yeah that's it, I'd say DAY 2 > DAY 1 mainly because DAY 2 didn't include THE DEATH OF MY FAV-- I need to calm down again sorry.

But to sum up, so far this is a very, VERY good game, a special game until I think about Joel that is in which I say to myself " F THESE NAUGHTY DOG MOFOS".

Sorry lol I'll get over it, proba- mayb- we'll see.

    Until my next update, peace.

    What a shot.

I shouted "SIT DOWN!" at my TV after I did this

Ellie is best character and main heart (reason) for TLOU!

    Posted: 30 May 2021 09:54 AM PDT

Even though Ellie wanted to secrifice herself for cure or world wanted to cure with her she agreed with it after having and developing relation with Joel , I feel like she was conflicted the reason she can't deny Joel's love but also she wants to secrifice herself

I honestly feel like Ellie hated herself more than anyone , her saying "I am so stupid' and her guilt towards Joel was rather towards herself than Abby actually

There is saying ,"You become person , you hate most "

But as Ellie she hated and blamed herself than others so I feel that's why she didn't able to kill Abby , she is more conflicted by her inner instinct rather than others

Her development was in part 2 started when she apologized to Dina after she had arguments with Dina about her pregnancy past night .

She said sorry that's what you can catch up that Ellie always wanted to redeem and rebuild relationship specially in part 2 and blamed herself for not doing that specifically for Joel

Ellie is also violence strictly most kills in self defense but in part 2 she did commit kills but in my opinion , she was forced to in that situation based on her inner motives like Mel and Owen situation , she definitely would have spared them but ended up killing them in more self conflict of her mental state rather than actually killing them like she was willing to spare them she just wanted to reach towards Abby

You can see her tough choices during whole game , she wanted to do right thing but she did not know ,what was right thing to do?
