Ellie is too complex for a video game.

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 09:01 PM PST

This is in no way shaming Ellie's character, of course. But reading several different takes on her character is really disappointing to me. People perceived the game as making "Ellie the bad guy" and many people say "this isn't the same girl I grew to love in the first game". I don't think people really understand Ellie's character and her motivations, subtleties, and inner contradictions and conflicts with survivor's guilt.

Ellie is by far the most interesting and complex protagonist in a video game in my opinion. What do you think?

The Last of us part II (TOMMY AND JOEL add-on by game)

    Posted: 29 Jan 2021 04:35 PM PST

This dlc would be a little longer than the Lost Legacy and would take place between two timelines. The events of Seattle from Tommy's perspective leading up to the sniper shootout between him and Abby and Manny and also a flashback timeline to him and Joel during the 20 years of the outbreak leading up to part I

    Prologue: aftermath

The game opens up just after Sarah has been killed. Joel and Tommy have managed to find safety in a safe zone. They both notice all around them the hundreds of families that have been broken and torn apart by the virus. Joel begins to breakdown. Tittle card rolls (The Last Of Us: Tommy and Joel)

    Chapter 1: Seattle day 1

The text 25 years later appears as Tommy walks into the hotel room where the two guys are tied in a chair both still alive. He then begins to do what Ellie said would happen in the main game and brutally interrogates them so that they give up the location of Abby. One of them tells him that she would always sneak out to the aquarium while the other would tell him to STFU. Tommy believes him and kills them both then he heads out to find the aquarium. (Same old stuff gameplay, safes, WLF encounters and so on). Then Tommy encounters the scars and is shot with an arrow in the arm and captured.

    Chapter 2: New Jersey

The text 20 years earlier appears (5 years after the outbreak) and we see Joel exiting a building and approach Tommy. He talks to him about a drug transport that will get them loads of weaponry and rations. Tommy is still moralistic so he is unsure about this however Joel explains to him that they have to do whatever it takes to survive. They head out with the cargo. (Same old stuff gameplay, safes, hunter encounters and so on). They arrive at the drop off point only to be double crossed and Tommy is left injured.

    Chapter 3: Seattle day 2

Tommy wakes up at dawn tied to post in the woods near the hospital. A scar cuts him down and drags him to a hanging ritual site. They are about to hang Tommy and cut out his insides but as they begin to slice his chest the WLF attack the area giving time for Tommy to escape. As he is escaping he spots Nora torturing a scar (because at this point in the story she is on her way to the hospital to clear out supplies) He points his rifle at her while she is busy but is shot in the arm and falls into a ditch (Nora does not see him during this scene). Tommy, now running from the WLF. barely escapes with his life and drops into an abandoned jewellery shop. He hides there for a while and finds the necklace that he talks about to Ellie in the main game.

    Chapter 4: Boston

The text 12 years earlier appears (13 years after outbreak day) as Tommy looks at his firefly pendant. He then enters Joel's apartment in Boston where Bill, Tess and Joel are all arguing. Tommy asks what's going on they explain that they have been set up by a group of mercenaries. They ask Tommy to help get them back but he thinks that the it's suicide. He then asks Joel for a talk in private. Joel tells him how stupid he is and just as Tommy is about to talk Tess bursts in the room and tells them that infected have broken into the quarantine zone. They grab their weapons and head out to help everyone fight the infected. The infected out number the survivors and the four of them take shelter in a nearby shop. Tommy is attacked by an infected which Joel then brutally beheads and helps Tommy up. He then notices a chain around Tommy's neck and pulls out his firefly pendent. Tommy then reveals that he is joining the fireflies to help find a cure. He and Joel brawl but is broken up by Tess and Bill. FEDRA reinforcements arrive and kill all the infected. Tommy then says that once this place is cleaned up he is leaving. Joel then wishes to never see his face again.

    Chapter 5: Seattle day 3

Tommy wakes up in the store and then continues his journey to the aquarium. The streets are flooded so Tommy has to find other routes. (Same old stuff, gameplay, safes, zombie and WLF encounters, Bloater boss fight). Finally He makes it to the area where he snipes Manny. We then play the fight from his perspective. Then once Manny is dead we brawl with Abby and are pushed into the sea. We then swim to the aquarium where we find Ellie who has now killed both Owen and Mel. Back at the theatre we see the same scene again except we get to interact and grab the gun to stop Abby shooting Ellie. Of course we are shot in the head and the screen goes black. The text appears 8 years later (17 years after outbreak day) where he is now with Maria and decides to leave the fireflies believing that the search for a cure is hopeless. The Two of them decide to head to Jackson to rebuild a part of society.

    Epilogue: Jackson

Tommy wakes up in Jackson. Now shot in the eye he is half blind and crippled. He sees the gold necklace and decides to give to Maria. He goes back home and apologises and gives her the necklace. She says it's too late and goodbye Tommy. Tommy leaves filled with rage for letting Joel die and with no one left by his side he decides to continue to search for Abby. He throws the necklace into the dirt now having lost his humanity and following a path similar to Joel's.
