    Explaining the boat scene

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 10:22 PM PST

I've just been thinking about the sex scene on the boat and I wanted to share my interpretation of what it's for. I know there are mixed feelings about it, a lot of people think it's pointless and unnecessary but I think there is a point to it.

A lot of people's complaints about that scene are that it seemed to come out of nowhere and that there was no sexual tension, but I think that is missing the point. It's not a sexually charged act. It's an act of desperation.

In her pursuit of Joel, Abby not only threw away the love she shared with Owen but also the vulnerable compassionate core she once had in common with him, and it was all for nothing. Killing Joel made her feel nothing. Afterwards she was lost, she didn't really know what to do with herself but on that boat after Owen demonstrates some of that vulnerability and compassion, she has a moment of weakness where she makes a desperate fumbling attempt to get back everything that she threw away, starting with the very moment that she threw it away, in the aquarium 3 years ago. In the aquarium she and Owen were kissing and they were about to hook up but she pushed him away and told him "Joel's still out there you know?" and "let's go back, we can still make training." She was so terrified of what Joel was capable of but also so consumed by her hatred of him that she would rather spend time training to become a killer worthy of facing him than spend time with the guy she loves. That was the moment she chose hate over love.

On the boat Abby is trying to redeem that moment. In this moment of vulnerability she no longer wants to be "Isaac's top scar killer" she just wants to be that innocent girl she used to be, who was still in love with Owen and who should have stayed with him in that aquarium but walked away. It's really the perfect place to start her redemption. It begins right where her descent began.

Picked these up and finally giving tlou2 a go

The logo for the newly announced game ‘The Day Before’ looks very familiar...

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 09:45 AM PST

Just beat Tlou2! Got my first PlayStation (PS5) and beat both TLOU games. What a masterpiece that was, in a way I understand why part 2 gets so much hate but I really enjoyed it and I understand why the ending happened the way it did.

Today I found out that Jocelyn, the woman who gave Abby's face, is playing video games and streaming them!

Owen was supposed to be a novice painter, this hilariously awful mural got cut from the game.

Game suggestions after playing the series?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 03:32 PM PST

Gonna be real with you all: TLOU 1 & 2 have ruined games for me. Nothing I jump into is as captivating or interesting. I absolutely loved every minute. That being said, is there anything half as good story and gameplay wise? I tried Uncharted, found it a bit boring. Also tried God of War and got about 6 hours into it; found that game boring as well. HZD and The Witcher aren't really my cup of tea, not into open world games. Any suggestions?

Beyond Desolation is a heart wrenching song

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 09:01 AM PST

Everytime I hear it, I feel the screen fading to black and watching the credits roll as I just sit there hoping there is more, this can't be the end and processing the entire journey and how we left Ellie.

You want to be optimist about her next adventures but I feel like that scene coupled with that song just drains any happy thoughts you can have leaving you with emptiness. Maybe that's why it's called beyond desolation.

    Ellie’s flick of the wrist

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 04:25 PM PST

When Ellie is aiming with her pistol (and maybe her revolver, but I haven't personally seen this), she does this move where it looks like she is flicking her wrist. She flicks it to, say, 2 o'clock / 45° angle.

Do you guys know what this is? Is it just to loosen her wrist?

two possible inspirations for part 2

    Posted: 30 Jan 2021 08:00 PM PST

as i explored other media, i think i found 2 possible inspirations for last of us 2: apocalypse now and Titus. apocalypse now made me rethink the entire series as a war game series, not as family drama or as a zombie game. Titus has the same themes as part 2, being the cycle of revenge and violence with the final shot being a choice made to end the cycle.
