I Love this Community, it Saved me Posted: 25 Aug 2020 05:59 AM PDT I've suffered from a combination of bipolar disorder, depression and chronic anxiety. Playing the Last of us 2 and now discussing my thoughts has helped me immensely, I love you all. [link] [comments]

What makes this level incredibly sad on a deep level Posted: 25 Aug 2020 09:24 PM PDT When we look at Ellie living her new life at the farmhouse with Dina & her newborn JJ, set months after the events of Seattle. We are meant to believe that they're living a happy life, but it doesn't feel very fulfilling for Ellie cause not only was she still suffering from the trauma over Joel's death, she felt like there was so no closure to it and she was letting Joel down by not finishing it by killing Abby. But that's not the sad part I'm referring to, what makes all of this truly sad is that living on the farmhouse with Ellie's family is exactly the type of thing Joel would've wanted Ellie to have and wouldn't want her to let his death prevent her from paying more attention to the meaningful aspects of her life that are still around. I want to address this moment in Part II [major spoilers] Posted: 25 Aug 2020 04:48 PM PDT Many seem to misunderstand Joel's character. A criticism we've all seen of Part II is that it was out of character for Joel to give the WLF his name, that he would never trust complete strangers with the 'absolute identifier' that is the four letters that make up his first name. Aside from the fact that Part II clearly documents that Joel and Tommy, together, bring groups of complete strangers into Jackson, let's talk about TLOU Part I, as Part I is allegedly where Joel has established himself as a man so distrusting that he would never give up his first name, especially after years of hurting people and what not. When we first meet Joel, post-pandemic, years after he had been selfishly hurting others to survive, he is actively going by the name 'Joel'. He and Tess set out to find Robert, with whom Joel and Tess are on a first-name-basis with, killing loads of his men along the way. The majority, if not all, of Robert's men know Joel and Tess by their first names as well, as they can be heard in their private conversations talking about them by name. Joel and Tess find Robert and proceed to torture him and kill him. Marlene then reveals herself. Marlene is also on a first-name-basis with Joel. She is also the leader of the Fireflies, who Joel does not trust at all. He displays this lack of faith in the Fireflies in a backhanded comment he gives to Marlene, referring to the Fireflies as "Your little Militia Group". Marlene has by now used Joel's name in the presence of Ellie, to which, of course, Joel takes no issue. If Joel were so distrusting of others that he would not dare give his name up, why would he live a life as a smuggler in a Quarantine Zone under his own real name? Let's continue. We've introduced the fact that the identifier that is Joel's first name is not something he thinks is of consequence. I'll continue exploring that, while also addressing the fact that Joel's name is of very little importance to any of the adversarial characters in the game. And by 'any of the adversarial characters in the game', I mean, literally every enemy and character you cross from this point on (obviously, until Joel makes his final decision in the game). Keep in mind: we have established that Joel doesn't give a rat's hat if literally anyone knows what his name is. Keep in mind: this is, again, years after his years of selfishly hurting others in order to keep himself alive and fed. Let the record show that the fact that Joel has hurt others in the past holds no weight on whether or not he allows others to know his name. Joel is not on the run from living people who know his name. Joel and Ellie embark on a 1 year Journey to Utah. Along the way, before arriving in Utah, the total amount of people that we know Joel knows he crosses paths with who either already know, or learn upon meeting him, his name is 5. Henry Sam Tommy Bill Maria Literally every enemy you encounter, including David, never so much as hears Joel's name spoken by any other character. There is a note on a Firefly you can pick up in Boston that is a list of ways to identify Ellie. The list contains an inaccurate estimate of her age. A rough estimate of her height. Her hair color. It does not include even her name. Let alone Joel's name. Then, you get to St. Mary's. Joel kills Dr. Anderson and Marlene, and many Fireflies to rescue Ellie. Then he lies to her and they return to Wyoming to live out their future days.... Back to Part II Joel is not in hiding. He never gave a rat's hat if anyone knew his name. He never tries to hide it. Part II begins 5 years after Joel met Ellie in Boston, and it is established that everyone in town knows and respects Joel Miller. He and Tommy go out and pick up strangers all the time, it's written in the patrol logbooks. He has a mailbox with his freakin' name on it. Tommy and Joel are caught in a storm and rescue a young woman. When they need an escape from the horde on their trail, they run to her suggested location. They are friendly, they offer Joel and Tommy towels for their horses. They engage in conversation and introduce themselves, and, naturally, Joel introduces himself back when Tommy points attention to him... When Abby crouches before Joel and says his name, he asks her who she is. She tells him to guess. He looks around the room and immediately realizes they're Fireflies. He grits his teeth and (remember, he has always essentially viewed them as Larpers) tells her to get on with whatever speech she has rehearsed. This idea that Joel was too distrusting to give out his name is nothing but bologna from people who are trying to come to terms with his death and want to blame someone. Joel never gave a fuck who knew his name. Dude literally made zero attempts to hide it. [link] [comments]
