[Long] a rant about the questionable decision at the beginning of the game. Posted: 24 Aug 2020 05:08 PM PDT I mean like, would you have gone "yup I'm gonna kill them all" if they killed off Dina, or Tommy? No. The only way to get that exact feeling of wanting to kill an entire group of people with no remorse, to pull you in like that, it had to be Joel. Because wether you like it or not that was the best way to get you invested. It was like killing off a family member you loved dearly, an old friend passing away suddenly and without a chance to say goodbye or tell them you loved them. You couldn't just walk away like that if you could get back at them could you? Hell when the first game came out I was a weird, anxiety ridden teen with no idea how to act. As embarrassing as it sounds I copied some of Joel's mannerisms to fit in, it was a weird thing but it worked. One of my biggest pieces of advice became "things happen and we move on" because of Joel. So when he was murdered I was heartbroken, because just like Ellie a sort of father figure had died at the hand of some character I thought I'd brain so hard that it wasn't even funny. So you move on and you down the first one in the school, I thought "great you got what you deserved you background character" and moved on and on until Mel's very questionable death that hit me with the old meme phrase, "Hans, are we the bad guys here?" Then bam, we play as Abby. Now I know a lot of people are like "let's just finish the bitch off and leave" and to be honest I felt a little the same. But there was a part of me that stopped and said "ah well, we're here, I'm a supporter for the concept of redemption, even in the face of real shitty acts like this one". so I played. And as we got further in realized that one moment in the first where we all went "haha doctor man has scalpel, let's see what he does to counter a bullet", and saw as it sparked a cycle for revenge that ended up being quite justified no matter how long it took or how short a time we played as a character. We meet Lev, (who I believe is best boi) and Abby starts to redeem herself through protecting and working together with him, a very touching bond forms between the two and around the time lev helps Abby through the skyscraper section I paused the game and really went "I don't think Abby's the bad guy in all this, I really don't.". He even helps Abby break free from the cycle of vengeance towards the end of the game which hit me pretty good. Now at the end of the end of the game my flame for vengeance has burnt out, it's 3 am in the morning and I'm really tired, but I must see this through! So we go through Santa Barbara and find Abby in a big predicament that we free her from, only for Ellie to say it isn't over. We have a fight and at the end of it all there's one final flashback that hits Ellie as hard as it hit me, she realizes that vengeance won't bring Joel back, that this whole journey has been wasteful and destructive. It made me realize how amazing the narrative is. As much as I hated seeing one of my all time favourite characters be murdered I then realized that none of this would be as gripping and impactful as it is if Joel hadn't been the one to die. Sorry for the long disjointed rant, I've been mulling this over for about a month or so and finally decided to write about it and see if anyone else shared my opinion or had a different view of things. Posted: 24 Aug 2020 02:29 PM PDT i'll admit, when the leaks came out about joel, i boycotted the game. i thought it was gonna be shit. after 2 months i decided to give it a try, because there's nothing else to do during quarantine. and i was shocked, the game is great. joels death is only a tiny bit of the story, there's so much more to it. for one, i didn't expect to enjoy playing abby's story, and i never thought i'd sympathize with joel's killer. and then there's all the side plots i liked that i won't spoil. and the gameplay is way better than the first game, especially with the overpowered listen mode being fixed. if anybody is still avoiding the game, i encourage you to try it, you'll be surprised how much there is to it. and i'm sorry for making fun of anybody who liked this game. if i helped in making discussions about this game toxic, i apologize. i was wrong, this game is fantastic. One of the best looking cut scenes ever imo. Posted: 24 Aug 2020 03:13 AM PDT The cut scene where Ellie and Dina are talking before Ellie leaves for Santa Barbra is, in my opinion, one the the most beautiful cut scenes we've ever seen in a video game. The lighting, the textures and, most if all, Ellie and Dina. If I never played Part 2, I could walk in on that scene and think it's an actual movie. The expressions of exasperation and pleading on Dina's face, the look of heartbreak in her eyes that you can truly feel and just the look on Ellie's face when she says "I can't". Her eyes look so real. This is pretty much a post fawning over the tragic beauty if this scene and that's without getting into the incredible acting from Ashley Johnson and Shannon Woodward. Despite how crushing it is, one of my favorite scenes in all of video gaming. [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Aug 2020 11:14 PM PDT I ran into this rather useful bug. As you can see in the video, I am unable to remove the silencer from my pistol. Additionally, the silencer does not show up on my gun even though the weapon cross says it is attached. I unloaded 6 shots to show it is an infinite silencer. This bug followed my entire play-through afterwards, including Santa Barbara. It did not affect Abby. I tried restarting checkpoints and quitting my game but the bug persisted. I have no idea what I did to cause this but it was a great bug to get! [link] [comments]

Posted: 24 Aug 2020 07:21 AM PDT I just wanted to take a second to say thank you. Seems like out of all the subreddits I'm active on this has the most supportive community. It's especially true since the story haters became inactive. We can all concentrate on the beauty of this game. I love browsing the posts and reading the supportive comments on drawings, photo mode posts etc. I love being here! Keep it like this please! *sorry for the bad grammar ;) [link] [comments] |
