Ashley is one of the greatest Voice Actors of all time

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 10:01 AM PDT

Just came here to say that this game cements it. Her performance throughout this entire game is so nuanced and gut-wrenching that it chalks up as not only my favorite video game performance, but one of my favorite performances by any actor in any medium. The depth and versatility of emotions she portrays is absolutely amazing. Not one of her moments on screen felt forced or disingenuous. I can't imagine what she had to go through and confront in herself to deliver such an astounding performance and I love her for it. No way she doesn't win performance of the year at the VGA's, she should win a fucking Oscar (fuck the Oscar's tho lol). She needs to be in more things moving forward, she's clearly an actress that will change the landscape of how performers approach roles in video games. Ashley, if you ever see this, you fucking rule. That's all.

EDIT: Since this is doing so well I wanted to take a moment to plug Shawn James' stellar song he wrote for the game called "The Guardian (Ellie's Song)". It's sensational and heartbreaking and not enough people know about it, so if you haven't heard it, go listen.

Anyone else keep thinking about Ellie playing “take on me” in Seattle?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 06:46 PM PDT

I feel like an emotional pregnant lady but I'm a guy in my mid 20s who cannot stop watching that scene, thinking about it and trying to stop myself from crying again over and over.

I finished the game a few days ago and I still can't process the feelings it has given me. I feel so dreadfully sad for Ellie and Joel.

Also, please don't get me started on the last flashback scene, with Joel holding back tears when Ellie said she wanted to start forgiving him. It's so relatable, everything about that moment felt so real.

Big warning to anyone with depression or some kind of mental illness, this game is a brilliant masterpiece, maybe one of the best of all time, but it will make you care and fuck you up. Be prepared.

From someone who only knew Abby’s story...

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 10:02 AM PDT

My roommate watched me play the last half of Part 2–the Abby half. He had none of the context or emotional baggage from Ellie's side of the story, which made it easy for him to choose sides when they duked it out in the end.

Now, I understand why some fans have been upset, because why would anyone care about a character who killed Joel or who wasn't Ellie? But to hear from someone who was more invested in Abby than Ellie made me realize just how brilliant the creative choice was to switch perspectives. Because if someone who has no history with Ellie can empathize with Abby, then the real question for Ellie fans is are we capable of empathy? I think our response to the Abby half of the story tells us something about what kind of people we are in real life. How many games do you know of that have accomplished that?

It's a hard thing they're asking us to do. To try and empathize with someone who isn't us. But this message seems more relevant than ever, and a brave choice for an industry that typically puts a controller in your hands and tells you to kill "the other." You may not agree or like the creative choices that were made, but you can't deny they successfully executed their vision. (Cue the haters)

I, for one, loved it and applaud ND for creating something that challenged my perspective.

The Seraphites are the best enemy type i have ever experienced in any video game and we don't talk about them enough.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 01:23 PM PDT

We really don't talk about the Seraphites enough. They are so well thought out and unique and the whistling is so cool you can actually learn the different type of whistles and know what enemies will be doing. And the build up they did for them how the WLF soldiers talk about them and seeing the murals around Seattle absolutely incredible.

Even though the Seraphites are horrible horrible people I love how villainous the Seraphites seem and that's not easy to do. Enemies and motivation often feel so hollow but the Seraphites seem so evil and I actually felt afraid of them and that they would catch and gut Ellie.

Enemies in video games are rarely unique in video games but man even though there are only 2 enemy factions in this game they are so much better than any other game.

Repeat after me: Just because you hate what happened doesn’t mean the story is bad!

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 04:23 PM PDT

I think we all hated most stuff that happens in the story. It doesn't mean the writing is bad. If you feel empty or mad or cry the whole time, I would say that is the point. A good story doesn't always equate to something satisfying. Why don't people grasp this concept?

when a female video game character is reduced to whether they’re fuckable or not. haven’t heard that one before.

I have a problem with the ending...

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 05:22 PM PDT

You're telling me we spend the entire story learning to care about Lennie, then George just shoots him in the back of the fucking head? What the fuck was the point?
