    • Starts after Ellie places Joel's guitar by the window and plays into the end credits (1st song).

Small addition: This popular upload of the complete OST plays three more short tracks after "Beyond Desolation". They aren't mentioned in the official tracklist and they don't appear in-game either because they're not the works of Santaolalla or Quayle. However, the second song is "A Father For A Daughter" - a fan-made TLOU2 track by Ubi Sunt Music, inspired by Santaolalla's style. It's really dope, so definitely check it out!

    Other used songs:

Through the Valley / Shawn James:

    • The song Ellie listens to on her Walkman in the prologue.
    • The song Ellie sings and plays in the official TLOU2 reveal trailer from 2016.

    Future Days / Pearl Jam:

    • The song Joel performs for Ellie in the prologue.
    • The song Ellie attempts to play in the beginning of the flashback of her birthday.
    • The song of which Ellie plays and sings the first few lines when she finds the guitar in the theater.
    • The song Ellie attempts to play on Joel's guitar in the abandoned farmhouse.

    Take on Me / a-ha:

    • The song Ellie plays on the guitar in the music store in downtown Seattle and then sings for Dina.
    • The song Dina hums when she's doing the dishes in the farmhouse.

    Hydrogen / M.O.O.N.:

    • When Ellie ambushes the woman playing Hotline Miami on a PS Vita, this is the song that can be heard over the earphones.

It Was a Good Day / Ice Cube:

    • Plays on the radio in the Seattle hospital when Ellie crawls through an air vent to get to Nora.

Christmas Wish / Paul Fletcher, Patrick Sturrock & Marc Williams:

    • The song playing on the radio in the aquarium when Abby pays Owen a visit, followed by the toy bow competition.

The Winding Sheet / Mark Lanegan:

    • The song playing on the radio in the aquarium when Abby breaks into the building searching for Owen who's hiding in his boat.

Ain't No Grave / Crooked Still:

    • The song Ellie puts on in the farmhouse and to which she and Dina dance in the kitchen.

Young Men Dead / The Black Angels:

    • The song the Rattlers are blasting in their base.

    Little Sadie / Crooked Still:

    • Plays during Jackson's festival while Ellie watches Dina dance.

    Ecstasy / Crooked Still:

    • The second song on the vinyl that Ellie puts on in the farmhouse.
    • The song Ellie plays on the guitar in the farmhouse when she can't sleep.
    • An instrumental version of the song plays at Jackson's festival when Ellie and Dina dance with each other and share a kiss.

Helplessly Hoping / Crosby, Stills & Nash:

    • The song Joel plays when he sits on his porch in the very last flashback.

    Wayfaring Stranger / Johnny Cash:

    • An acoustic cover by Ellie and Joel's voice actors plays during the end credits (7th/last song).

    True Faith / Lotte Kestner:

    • The song Ellie sings in the official commercial/TV spot.

    Missing/Unnamed Music:

    • "Mountain Jumper", "Railroad Bill", and "Wind and Rain" by Crooked Still are listed in the credits but I didn't hear them in the game.
    • 2nd song of the end credits - which also starts after Maria asks Ellie and Dina to bring back Tommy in one piece and plays into Ellie and Dina riding Shimmer through the forest area before reaching Seattle's gates

If you're looking for e.g. specific ambient/combat music: This YouTube channel is currently uploading the entire TLOU2 score, working on having every single chapter covered in the near future. The tracks are obviously not titled but you'll easily find gems like the music in the museum or the music that plays while Ellie and Dina are fighting their way out of the elementary school.

    Reoccurring Music:

If you ever thought "wait I heard that music somewhere else already" while playing the game - I also put together a list of scenes that share the same non-OST music:

    • Ellie and Dina admiring the view on the balcony of their first patrol-stop. / Ellie soothing a sick Dina at the beginning of Seattle Day 2.
    • Ellie and Dina searching through houses for supplies during their patrol. / Ellie returning to the farmhouse after having gone hunting.
    • Ellie, Dina and Jesse heading out of the weed cellar to look for Joel and Tommy. / Ellie and Jesse splitting up to go after Abby/Tommy.
    • The music that plays with the Ellie/Outbreak Day 2018 PS4 theme. / [different version] Abby's crew beating up Joel and Tommy. / Ellie wandering through the ski lodge looking for Joel. / [different version] Ellie and Jesse hearing a commotion in the theater and running into Abby holding Tommy hostage. / Abby killing Joel (Abby's view). / Abby threatening Tommy and then Ellie in the theater (Abby's view).

Unpopular Opinion: If not for TLOU1, Ellie would be highly unlikable in TLOU2

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 07:35 PM PDT

I started thinking about this after seeing so many people complain about Abby.

And then I stopped to think about it.....and adult Ellie is arguably the worst character in this game. The ONLY reason you love Ellie...is because of TLOU1. Period. Adult Ellie is a miserable, boring character (not her fault, ill get to that).

TLOU1 Ellie: Funny, sarcastic, sympathetic, empathetic, emotive, adorable, vulnerable, interesting.

TLOU2 Ellie: grumble grumble, never says anything funny/interesting the entire game, more grumble grumble.

Now I understand we are working with a deeply traumatized character here. Im NOT complaining about Ellie being sad/angry and not funny. I dont expect somebody with PTSD to be entertaining us. She behaves exactly how she should behave under the circumstances.

What I am saying - Ellie in TLOU2 is far more unlikable than Abby, if you ignore your love for TLOU1 Ellie.

So stop complaining about Abby. Adult Ellie is objectively way worse.

The Last of Us Part II has changed me and has become my favorite game of all time

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 07:38 AM PDT

Seven months ago, a good friend of mine in discord was killed. I learned of this news through his sister, and his killer has been caught. I have since recovered. I have been dealing with grudges recently a lot. Grudges against my bully, my mom after she snooped too much on my personal life. I picked up The Last of Us Part II the day it came out. The first game was one of my favorites with Horizon Zero Dawn and Modern Warfare. I had the misfortune of encountering a spoiler when I searched a meme, and it was about Joel's death. I had prepared for it, and when it finally came, I was devastated and crying, broken by the game. I continued on and I hunted down Abby. I was immensely enjoying the game, and the character interactions were endearing. But as I played, the game got more brutal and merciless.

Nora's death was painful. Ellie had started to become ruthless. When she took off her shirt and her wounds became visible, it made my jaw drop at all that she's going through just for revenge. Once I got to the Aquarium, I was becoming conflicted over Ellie's lust for revenge, which reached it's peak when she encountered Owen and Mel. I worried what she would do, but it was worse than I expected. When she started to interrogate them I thought it was a cool nod to the first. But when they fought back and Ellie killed them, I was shocked. I was left stunned as I watched Ellie open Mel's jacket and find a baby bump. It destroyed me seeing Ellie descend into such a person, her mistakes catching up to her. Then when Abby arrived at the theater and held Tommy and Ellie at gunpoint, the obvious anticipation was an emotional climax. But then came the biggest and best 180s of all time.

When I stepped into the shoes of Abby, confusion and disbelief overcame me. I decided to try to keep an open mind during this segment, I knew ND was doing this for a reason. Once I saw Jerry's corpse, I felt horrible killing that doctor. Moving forward into Seattle, I prepared to play as Abby for 3 days. Manny, Mel, Nora, across the duration of Abby's section, each character was humanized and I began to warm up to them all... Which made me sadder over their deaths which were caused by me as Ellie in my blind search for revenge. Now as I played as Abby, I had no idea what to expect. And then possibly one of the most amazingly done cut-scenes played.

I watched in awe of the graphical achievement in front of me as I saw the Paris Games Week Trailer in the game, the graphics still stunning and the audio mesmerizing. Then the transition to gameplay was unbelievably well done. It was probably the second best set-piece in any game I've played. And Abby's decision to return after finding Owen, it was the start of Abby's perfect character arc. I was starting to warm up to Abby despite disliking her heavily earlier on.

Her time with Lev was very nice and touching, and I drew immediate comparisons to Joel and Ellie. Then the section in the hospital proved to be the most horrifying experience I've ever had in any video game. The darkly lit atmosphere was horrifying, but it didn't compare to the teasing and eventual shocking reveal of the Rat King. A disgusting and morbid threat comprised of meshed together infected, brought the game to another level. The boss fight was intense as hell. Then as the story continued, I bonded with Abby somewhat, and liked her character more than I thought I would. Her journey to the Scars-I mean Seraphites' island proved to be fantastic. Finding Lev with his dead mom was saddening, and I felt so sorry for what he had to do. Then came Yara's death. It was sad and sudden, true to the game. Joel, Jesse and Yara's deaths were symbolic of how brutal the world of The Last of Us was. Some, no time for mourning. Some, sudden and not at all heroic. It felt real.

The game followed up Yara's demise with the best set piece of all time. "You're my people" was the line that signaled Abby's incredible character development. Their escape from the island was intense and nothing short of spectacular with the people, no longer separated by factions, engaging in death. Her discovery of Mel and Owen's death was genuinely sad and made me shed a tear, especially Alice the dog's death.

The subsequent boss fight with Ellie was horrible, I didn't want to play it at all. And that is why I loved it. I knew both stories and I knew they both went through hell. Lev telling Abby to spare Dina felt true to her character.

Shifting to Ellie with JJ and Dina was heartwarming, I thought she had her happy ending, but with the flashback, I knew it wasn't over. Her heading back to find Abby was heartbreaking but in character. Her encounter with Abby and Lev after saving them from the Rattlers after they were searching for the Fireflies was uncomfortable. Fighting Abby, I wanted her to stop, and when she did, I breathed a sigh of relief. She had started trying to let go of her rage and try to forgive, and hit me harder than any previous game.

This brings me back to where I had begun. The game changed me. I related heavily to Ellie's lust for revenge. I wanted to kill my friend's killer until my friends snapped me out of it. And I now desire to forgive. I have let go of my resentment of my mom, and has helped our relationship improve. I am trying to find a way to try to forgive my bully, and it will be a long process. This game has made me desire to become a better person and let go of rage and hatred.

The Last of Us Part II is a terrific game, with phenomenal gameplay and a beautiful soundtrack and stunning audio design and visuals. But the story has helped elevate the game to become one of the best pieces of media I've ever consumed, and has left a bigger impact on me than any other video game before.

Edit: I didn't get to include all of my thoughts since I realized it was too long already oop

The last of us characters feel like real people

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 11:32 AM PDT

I finished playing the last of us 1 and 2 back to back a few days ago. It is unreal how much I care for the characters in this story. I was devastated by the tragic death of Joel, and I want nothing more than for Ellie to move on and find happiness and peace in life. I didn't connect with Abby quite as much simply because I began this journey with Ellie and Joel, but I can certainly understand and ultimately forgive her actions from the beginning of the game despite how devastated I was.

I have spent an overwhelming amount of time trying to understand the final events of the game and uncover what happened to Ellie, Dina, and JJ after the story. Ultimately, the ending is very open ended and I should realize that interpreting the end as Ellie preparing to try and reunite with Dina is just as correct as any other interpretation. However, it is crazy that I care this much for a fictional character that I am spending time trying to piece together clues that show she can move forward with life and find purpose through her family. I just feel like she deserves a happy ending after all the tragedy she has endured. Even though these are all fictional characters.

TLOU2 is literally the first game that made me pause during a QTE button pressing

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 03:36 PM PDT

In the last part where I had to hit Abby, I paused and was like "fucking hell, are you serious?"

And the action sequences that followed were just painful to watch. I could literally feel both their pain and Ellie's chaotic emotions.

Probably the most cinematic play I’ll ever get. (Spoiler free)

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 08:42 PM PDT

The PSX 2016 reveal trailer is a brilliant bit of symbolism for The Last Of Us Part 2, and I’d like to discuss it with those who have completed the game.

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 06:13 PM PDT

(https://youtu.be/W2Wnvvj33Wo) video linked there. To set the scene, it's basically Ellie shakily singing "Through The Valley", in a house full of slaughtered WLF.

-The trailer has a flash of a Firefly symbol painted over a traffic sign in the beginning, hinting at the fact that they're still a loose end from the original game not fully tied up.

-The first glimpse we got of adult Ellie are her shaking, bloodied hands, a part of her body that is symbolic in Part 2. From the guitar being a central part of her and Joel's connection, to how her hands uncontrollably shake after interrogating Nora, and her fingers eventually being bitten off by Abby in their final encounter.

-The song "Through The Valley" includes the lines "My mind and my gun, they comfort me", hinting at how Ellie is relying on murderous revenge to cope with Joel's death.

-It also has the lines "But I can't walk on the path of the right, because I'm wrong", alluding to the fact that despite Ellie being on this journey of self-righteousness, deep down, she feels guilt for how she's behaving. This is seen with her progressively deteriorating mental state as she kills more WLF.

-Also, something interesting to note, is the fact Joel shows up in the house right before the third verse, which has the lyrics "Well I came upon a man at the top of a hill; Called himself the savior of the human race Said he come to save the world from destruction and pain But I said, "How can you save the world from itself?"

It's just me overthinking, but it's almost too nice how Joel cuts Ellie off right before she begins singing amount possibly saving humanity from itself, when she's basically a cure for what's left of it.

-But to end it, Joel almost spiritually enters the house, walking through the light to the slaughter, and asks Ellie "What are you doing kiddo, are you sure you want to go through with this?", further hinting at how Ellie's revenge quest for Joel is futile in a sense.

-Her last words are "I'm gonna find, and I'm gonna kill, every last one of them", something we assume she's saying directly to Joel, but in hindsight it's actually something she's actually saying to herself, to justify her revenge journey for Joel.

But that's my take on it, what about y'all?

Just finished Part2 and it truly is a masterpiece

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 05:07 PM PDT

At the end of the game you see the entire struggle of the game, Ellie vs Abby, come to its final moment on the beach. Both of them have been through absolute hell all because of their conquests of revenge.

She has seen the hell that gang puts anyone and everyone through, and can see it immediately that Abby is nothing like who she was. She is a complete and utter victim much like she almost was. And her first instinct isnt to kill her but to cut her down.

Ellies walk up the beach is nothing but conflict about what she should do. Even while they are loading up the boats she still is struggling to decide what to do.

She tried as hard as she could to kill all the empathy she had but couldnt in the end. She realized she wont gain anything from killing her because all this revenge has done is take from her everything she loves, to the point she cant even play songs, maybe her greatest connection to Joel.

This game was nothing short of amazing and was an intense emotional trip and man the last scene with Joel and Ellie i had to shed some tears for that shit
