I just realized something about Abby and Ellie!!

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 07:08 PM PDT

Maybe it's stupid that I only just realized but I suddenly thought about how Abby never got to tell Ellie why she actually killed Joel and why Ellie therefore will never truly know the reason behind Joel's death. Ellie knows Joel killed the doctors but she didn't know the main surgeon was Jerry; Abby's dad. Ellie thought Abby was mad because Joel prevented the development of a cure, and therefore potentially prevented the world from returning to 'normal' again; a world without CBI and without infected. Ellie primarily thinks this because of what Norah told her at the hospital. Of course Abby is mad about that, but she killed Joel specifically because of what he did to her dad. During the confrontation in the theatre between Ellie and Abby, when their stories finally intersect again, Ellie puts her hands up and says "I know why you killed Joel, he did what he did to save me, there's no cure because of me I'm the one that you want." Abby assumes Ellie knows why she killed Joel, since Ellie literally says she knows why, but she actually doesn't. They never had a chance to talk, not even in the last horrific scene... When Abby lay there in the water and you had to press square to strike her again, i was hoping she would reveal it to Ellie, but then again in Abby's mind Ellie already knows Joel killed her father.

Man, the more time passes after i finished the game, the better i feel about it...It is a really great game, with a bold story that not everyone will appreciate, but I think the Naughty Dog team knew that very well and is absolutely okay with that!! If you don't like it that's okay but I love it.

NA Steelbook (Top) vs UK Steelbook (Bottom)

a 2nd playthrough is NEEDED for this game.

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 11:30 AM PDT

seriously, playing through this game a second time is an essential requirement I believe, so many references and hidden motifs are missed on the first playthrough, but after gaining clarity and digesting everything you need to return and experience it again, not only will you see things from a better and more experienced perspective but you might even learn to appreciate the game even more than before, or at least understand more of it's themes and messages.

Looks like Metacritic finally realised that it takes time to play a game: you can only review GoT 39 hours after official release time.

I just realized something that further cements a certain ending theory [SPOILERS]

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 11:27 AM PDT

    Introduction and refresher

So the theory that Ellie already lives with Dina in Jackson at the end of the game has started to gather some traction on this sub. Before getting into my new piece of info, as a refresher for those who don't know, the theory goes something like this (this is my personal take, some may have a different variation in their mind):

(Skip to after the bullet points if you're familiar with this theory, although this neatly summarizes all the info I know about. I'll edit stuff in if you guys have some more)

I think the epilogue scene of Ellie coming back to the farm is not the first time she came back after Santa Barbara. She already came back, and Dina was likely still here. They both decided to move back to Jackson but Ellie chose to leave most of the stuff that reminded her of Joel behind and this room became a place for Ellie to commune with Joel every once in a while. What we're seeing is Ellie's last visit, not her first. It's the visit where she finally, completely, moves on from Joel's death and lays him to rest.

You could also say that Dina had already moved back to Jackson by the time Ellie came back but Ellie has in the meantime found Dina and made up with her in Jackson.

Here are the pieces of evidence leading to this:

    • By far the most damning: Ellie is wearing Dina's bracelet, which she wasn't wearing in Santa Barbara (henceforth abbreviated SB) and it was not visible in the backpack (important objects are established as visible to the player in the backpack)

    • Ellie is wearing her Patrol boots from the start of the game, it seems doubtful she'd take them to go to SB. Upon leaving and in SB she wore her converse sneakers edit: she wore those boots when she left

    • She's not wearing the same Jeans she had in SB

    • She has no visible weapons

    • The house is in disrepair, indicating the passage of time

    • The season seems to be the same, indicating at least a year has passed since she left

    • She doesn't seem surprised or even sad when seeing the house empty.

    • There are rather weird dirt buildups that suggest someone has come through before

    • Ellie's guitar is significantly more damaged than when she left the farm (the Taylor logo is almost scratched off), in a way that could not have happened if it stayed in its case, and I don't see Dina purposefully damaging Ellie's guitar. It seems more likely Ellie damaged it herself out of frustration from not being able to play. Regardless, it still shows the passage of time and this is not something to take lightly as it is the only time in the game that the guitar's 3D model changes

    • A lot of the stuff left in Ellie's studio belonged to Joel or is tied to Joel and Ellie's past. I'll refer you to this awesome post by u/WoahAngelo who seemingly worked his ass off on this theory

    • Several things related to Dina and Ellie's relationship are missing from this room (the oil paintings of Dina and JJ, a sketch of Dina holding JJ)

    • Finally, and this is where I'll trail off onto my additional info: Jesse's parents were pressuring Dina and Ellie to move back to Jackson

Additional info: Why did Ellie and Dina live on this farm, exactly?

I am once again replaying this game (this time, I'm picking chapters to fit my entertainment) and I just noticed something, and the best way to think about it to ask the question "why are Ellie and Dina living on the farm, actually?"

It seems like a simple answer, Dina mentioned wanting to do this on Seattle Day 1 in the open world area. The obvious answer is that they wanted to do this. But... It seems extremely dangerous in this universe to live on an isolated farm with a newborn baby. The threat of infected and hunters is ever present and while Ellie and Dina are both badass superheroes, it seems like an unnecessary risk. Adding to that the lack of electricity and modern plumbing equipment, and their lives seem not only recklessly dangerous but needlessly complicated. They could live in Jackson and enjoy much greater safety, a lot of useful technology (and fuckin PS3s man) and the many day to day advantages of living in a community and not having to do everything yourself. The safety alone is a pretty solid reason to not live outside Jackson with a newborn baby.

Well, I believe I have the answer. Before Ellie leaves the Farm, you can open up her notebook and a note says that Jesse's parents came to visit, but they started pressuring them to move back to Jackson and Ellie wrote "I couldn't handle it and left for the woods. I didn't come back until late at night."

At first I brushed this off as Ellie being her weird PTSD self, incapable of handling any kind of pressure, but if you think about it for a second...

Ellie couldn't handle living in Jackson.

Jackson is a place that can only act as a constant reminder of Joel and everything else she lost. Jackson was too painful for her to live in. Ellie needed them to start a life somewhere else because she needed a new beginning, to try to get away from this pain. She was trying to get better and she desperately wanted this life for her, Dina and JJ, but it didn't work. She was still haunted by Joel and that is why she needed to go after Abby.

But when Ellie comes back she is, if not completely healed, at least more at peace with Joel and most likely able to handle moving back to Jackson. In my mind this cements the idea that moving back to Jackson was something inevitable for their family, and Ellie's journey made her able to go through with this change.

    Unpopular opinion

    Posted: 17 Jul 2020 08:07 PM PDT

Dogs are loyal to their owners, so if you use them as weapons it's not their fault, they will easily adept what their owners teach. WLF trained dogs to spot people on regular basis and brutal. If you hate Ellie for killing dogs it's not valid point either she didn't hate dogs, actually in the beginning of the game when she pet dog and said 'old timer' but the thing is enemies dogs are loyal to enemies and you can't change that

So this whole topic is nonsense that Abby pet dogs and Ellie kills dog no it's not like that

Abby pet dogs because it's her organizational dogs that she was familiar with

Same with Ellie in Jackson she pet dogs that she was familiar with
