Don't forget to give your honest opinion on the metacritic page. Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:28 PM PDT https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/the-last-of-us-part-ii Within mere hours of the release of a 30h game (that means it takes multiple days for normal humans to complete), The Last of Us Part II already had more reviews than God of War has 2 years after release. Furthermore, as the days passed and more people finished it, the score rose from 3.3 to the current 5.3. Regardless of your opinion on the game, one fact is undeniable: the current metacritic rating is a product of review bombing, and does not reflect people's actual opinions on the game. I am not asking you to go rate it 10/10. I'm not even asking you to go give it a good rating. If you think it's a 4/10 game, by all means, please leave a sincere review and rate it 4/10. Bonus: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6298000 All I ask is that you help the metacritic rating reflect what people actually think about the game. So go give it your honest opinion, positive or negative! [link] [comments]

Even if you dislike Abby, to call her a poorly written character is a horrible take Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:42 PM PDT She's an extremely meticulously crafted character that serves as a parallel to Ellie and Joel. The attention to detail in her arc is incredible, from the childhood background scene mirroring the giraffe scene in the first game, the fact that she collects coins as a way to show a "two sides of the same coin" to Ellie as she has her own hobby of collecting niche things she probably bonded with her father similar to Ellie bonding with Joel with comic books. The fact that she can't sleep and has consistent nightmares is eerily similar to Joel's nightmares in the first game, and as many people have already said she finds her humanity through a child companion like Joel. Also Lev and Abby's adventure is basically a mirror to Joel and Ellie's adventure in the first game. For example Lev running off to his home island parallels Ellie running off to the ranch. Abby decides not to hand Lev over to be executed by Isaac just like Joel chose Ellie's life and slaughtered the fireflies. And in the end Joel finds refuge in Jackson, and hopefully Abby found refuge in Catalina. So yea, those are my thoughts on Abby and why I think she's a well crafted character. [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:33 PM PDT I personally loved the game, but I can see arguments for why people don't like it. Regardless, though, aside from everyone agreeing the graphics are fucking phenomenal, I feel like everyone can admit that TLOU2 is way more anxiety inducing then the first. Don't get me wrong; the first game was also gut wrenching. But my god, I can't even pick out which event was the scariest for me in this game. A lot of people have said the rat king, and I might agree, but I feel like there was so many fucking hard parts across both Abbie's and Ellie's Seattle days. I fucking loved it though, I was engaged in the game the entire time. I truly think those new zombie fuckers (stalkers, I believe?) that were introduced rose my blood pressure to unhealthy levels. The dogs being added was also super anxiety inducing. Overall, I think the action and horror in this game was top notch and one of, if not the most engaging game I ever played. What do you guys think? [link] [comments]

[SPOILERS] Joel's Role in the Last of Us - Addressing Reddit's Cult of Joel Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:18 PM PDT Serious spoilers for all of both games to follow. The fact that you're on this sub means that you should go play both games if you have the means to do so. Of the many valid opinions that exist about the second game, 'a waste of money' isn't one that I can logically support. I went into the second game completely blind. Now having finished it, I came to these subreddits and was surprised to see a part of this community which had developed an entirely different idea of Joel's character and the ending of the first game as a whole. There is a cult which blindly follows Joel. Here's the kind of thing that I saw: https://www.reddit.com/r/lastofuspart2/comments/hforgs/if_joel_had_upgraded_his_speech_skills/fvz2x1o?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x People here cite how the ending of the first game was ambiguous. How you walked away unsure of whether or not Joel made the right decision. They theorize that a vaccine was implausible in the apocalypse, that the Fireflies would have created a totalitarian regime if they had made a cure. And from that perspective, you can get even more extreme like this delightful (/s) thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/lastofuspart2/comments/hbn16o/tlou2_is_a_a_misery_porn_for_neil_druckman_and_an/ Now this last post is definitely influenced by the fact that op hasn't played the game, but its a common sentiment. I think it's pretty central to the most intense hatred that the second game picked up. 'I can't believe that my hero, Joel, gets such a un-heroic death! (or dies at all) And Ellie doesn't even follow through with her revenge! What poor storytelling!' These sentiments, in my opinion, come from a complete misunderstanding of the first game's ending and interpretation of Joel's character. I cried for an hour after the first game ended, and stayed close to tears for the next three days until I got to start the second game (I don't understand how most of you waited so long for this sequel). I wasn't crying for Marlene or the Fireflies or the failure to make a cure. I was crying for Ellie and the soul-crushing disaster that her life had just become. I cried because "Back in Boston - Back when I was bitten, I wasn't alone. My best friend was there. And she got bit too. We didn't know what to do. So...She says, "Let's just wait it out. Y'know, we can be all poetic and just lose our minds together". I'm still waiting for my turn... " - Ellie Symbolically, Ellie died beside Riley in the mall, losing her mind with her crush and best friend. By the rules of this cruel world, every moment of her life from then on should not have occurred. The infection is still within her, but frozen, as if waiting for a moment to take over her brain and end it. Ellie is on bought time and she knows it. This makes the final chapter of the first game a tragedy. Both Marlene and Joel take away Ellie's right to decide for herself whether to give in to make a vaccine, even though we learn exactly what she would have done given a choice. Both of them, like the overprotective parents that they were for her, take away her right to choose for herself. They have too much invested. Marlene wants to justify the terrorism and downfall of the Fireflies, a last ditch attempt to make it worth something. And for Joel: "I struggled for a long time with survivin', And you- [He briefly clutches his watch.] No matter what, you keep finding something to fight for." - Joel For Joel, he's right back where he started with Sarah. Ellie is the only thing that Joel has left, the only thing he's fighting for. Last time he was in this situation, he didn't get to choose. He lost Sarah, and had nothing to fight for. From what we know, his darkest days followed. Now Joel is too scared to risk losing Ellie like he lost Sarah. But it's worse than that: "It's what she'd want. And you know it." - Marlene Joel knows exactly what Ellie would do in this situation. He doesn't have to hear her talking about waiting for her turn, his reaction in this scene is enough to tell us that he knows. Joel isn't doing this in order to give Ellie her own choice. This isn't about morals, Joel saves Ellie out of the unconditional and illogical love of a parent and the fear of losing her. "I swear. " - Joel The clincher. Even after the fact, once everyone who could have performed the operation is dead, Joel lies in Ellie's face for what? Fear of losing her trust? Of risking their relationship? Everything that Joel just fought and murdered for now hangs on top of a lie. Let's summarize. Ellie is on bought time, and has been waiting to be claimed by the hell that this world has become since her infection stopped short of killing her. Joel knows that sacrificing herself is what Ellie would want, but flies in the face of that primarily because he's scared of losing her like he did his biological daughter. To cap it off, he lies about it all in order to protect the trust that she has in him. This is why I loved the first game so much, despite the crying. It was so brutally honest to Joel's character. I sympathize with every decision he made, and would undeniably do the same if I was Ellie's murder-dad. But back to the Cult of Joel. Theory crafting moral or medical reasons to support Joel's decision to save Ellie is ridiculous. He's not a philosopher, scientist, politician, or expert on the logistical capabilities of the fireflies to manufacture a vaccine. All the information Joel has points directly towards the vaccine being real, viable, and producible should Ellie undergo the procedure. He makes his decision 100% out of his love for Ellie and the pain of his past. Joel was not a hero. He betrayed the person he loved most in order to buy more time with her. Joel was a dad. These are the characters and the story that the second game honours. The truth behind Joel's lies come out. The years of parenthood that he bought with Ellie come to an end. Ellie grows up and away from him. Joel dies the death of a helpless old man who lived at peace for years, killed by the direct consequences of his choice, and for protecting someone not unlike Ellie. Ellie spends the entire game dealing with the scars that Joel's betrayal left behind. She tries (and fails?) to forgive him, all while on a suicide quest supposedly for revenge that sees her become a villain herself. In the end, she is forced to leave Joel behind. She starts to live the life that Joel gave her from beyond his shadow for the first time. It's difficult for me to see the poor storytelling here. TLDR: If you're looking for a game in which Joel says and does the right things, living and dying as a hero, it isn't the second game. But it wasn't the first game either. [link] [comments]
