Brandon Scott (Henry) reveals his character’s backstory

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:48 PM PST

Brandon Scott, who portrays Henry, was invited to the new episode of Retro Replay, as his character was introduced. He told Troy Baker and Nolan North that when he came for his audition, he already had the character's backstory in mind, and it's really interesting to hear his take on the character:

He said that Sam is actually his half-brother, born after her mother is raped. He explained that at first he hated the baby for all that happened to his mom, but eventually realizing he has to protect him because, "as Ellie says in the end of the game, it can't be for nothing".

I think that it's a really interesting take on the character, I never heard it before. What do you guys think?

I'm so curious about this location... Look at the clothes! It kinda looks like a theater backstage. What are your thoughts?

Does anyone else hear Ellie’s voice in the back of your head whenever you see a nice view?

    Your favourite small moments

As you're entering the science building in the university section, Joel helps Ellie up the ledge, and as she thanks him, he smiles at her. It's just this brief little outpouring of pure, unguarded affection from Joel, which I don't think Ellie even notices, and it gets to me every time I see it. It's so tender.

It's the little details and character moments that flesh this world out and make the game so rich. What are the some of the smaller things that stood out to you?

The Last of Us Part II difficulty level

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 08:21 PM PST

So what level are you planning to play The Last of Us Part II on?

My original plan was to play it on Normal first because I just want to experience the story but I have been playing The Last of Us Part I on Easy mode for my platinum and this game is so fucking easy. There was never a situation where I needed to do stealth because I never ran out equipment or ammo. So I'm thinking of going Hard instead because I do want a challenge.

Do you think Grant Voegtle will be allowed to start posting on youtube again after the release of tlou 2?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 06:48 PM PST

For those who don't know, Grant Voegtle was a TLOU superfan who had a channel that was dedicated to the game. He posted videos on both multiplayer and single player modes. He is most famous for making the TLOU cinematic playthrough series and his review of the game. A short while after this, he was recruited by naughtydog and placed under NDA due to this. Currently his twitter is private and his youtube channel has not been updated since his last video 4 years ago, which is totally understandable as ND would want to minimize any possible leaks about the game. I was just wondering if you guys think ND would allow him to give some insights about the game, or even just give us an update about how he is doing some time after its release. Thoughts?

    About the tattoos!

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 09:43 AM PST

Im not her to criticize or judge anyone for that tattoos they are getting even if it is a direct copy. My opinion on that doesn't matter and I hope you really enjoy the tattoo especially if it is our first! Hell im even getting my own version of her tattoo sometime in the future.

What I wanted to say it's how amazing it is how those who got it now have something in common for the rest of their lives and hopefully one day I'm walking down the street and see someone rocking something similar to my Ellie tattoo or a fireflies logo. We are all now connected boys and girls!

Can't wait to see more posts of your tattoos everyone.

    Regarding Joel's wife

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 12:56 PM PST

I know most speculation points towards Joel's wife passing during child birth (optional dialogue at the University with Ellie) shows it's still a sore subject for Joel. However, there's no concrete proof she passed away. Is there any possibility that she could make an appearance? Neil said the last of us is always going to be about Joel and Ellie. But he never explicitly says their stories will always be intertwined. I'm probably just overthinking it but maybe the opening hours of the game where Joel is absent, at least from what we've been shown, he's off on his own journey. Maybe that's why Ellie is jaded when his name gets brought up. He left unannounced and she didn't get to go with. Maybe his wife/ex-wife surfaced and he went looking for her. Then the violent act happens and Ellie goes for revenge on her own. From what we know, he reappears in the summer section of the game. If it's following similar structure of the first game, that would place him at a lil over the half way mark. He returns from his journey, finds out what happened and sets out to find Ellie and help her rescue Tommy. This is obviously a theory but I thought about it during some downtime at work. lol so I thought I'd share it.

I need help with the Left Behind survivor trophy

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 06:04 PM PST

I played left behind on hard and then wanted to get the trophy for beating it on survivor. Instead of starting a new game I replayed all the chapters on that difficulty. It now says completed on survivor for all of them but I didn't get the trophy. Do I need to start a new game to get the trophy? Does the same apply for the regular game if I want to get the No Matter What survivor trophy? Sorry for the dumb question. I appreciate you reading this.

    How do preorders work?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 05:47 PM PST

Noob question, I know, but I've never preordered anything in my life. I decided to preorder the Collectors Edition from Walmart but it says it'll be available for pick-up/same day delivery on June 2, not May 29. Is this how most preorders work? Do they get shipped to distributors on the release date and then pick ups are a few days later after they've arrived?

Anyone have experience preordering from Walmart?

Why the "Dina dies" theory started to make sense to me (Spoilers of the first game)

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 05:30 PM PST

I remember that the first time I read about the theory of Dina's death and how she will be the reason why Ellie goes on a killing spree I thought it was cheap. Very cheap. I didn't think Naughty Dog would do something like this because it is cliché and has been done multiple times before - as in, hero's love interest dies therefore hero will go to the end of the world to avenge their loved ones. And for a long time I just refused to believe it because I didn't want Ellie to lose another girlfriend (yikes).

However, recently I've been thinking more and more about the game because I simply can't wait for it any longer, I just want to play it already for Christ's sake. And immediately after thinking about Dina's supposed death, I automatically remembered Sarah.

Many people say that they didn't care about Sarah's death because they barely even knew her, she died very early in the game and therefore they didn't feel any emotional connection to her whatsoever. Interestingly enough, Sarah's death isn't necessarily meant to make you feel emotionally connected to her (although you can, obviously) but it is instead meant to help you connect with Joel, making you understand his actions and why he does the things he does. Joel is broken after Sarah's death. He is in deep grief. He doesn't like to talk about or remember it (hence why he rushes Tommy to put Sarah's photo away when he shows it to him, and why he gets pissed off when Ellie brings up Sarah) and keeps these emotions to himself and deals with them by not bringing them up. However, after understanding what Ellie means to him and allowing himself to be more open and love her, he manages to speak about Sarah and be okay with remembering her. If Sarah hadn't died, how different would Joel be? How would he look at the world?

Curiously, many people say the same thing about Dina. We don't know her at all. All we know is that Ellie likes her and she (possibly) likes Ellie back. I've seen a lot of people say they don't care about Dina, they have no reason to as she isn't a character they know and they have no connection whatsoever with her. But again, what if Dina's death isn't meant to make us emotionally connected to her, but instead help us to connect with Ellie and understand her actions? Ellie likes Dina, and she wants to stay with her. When someone she loved gets taken away from her, she becomes broken and decides that Dina's death has to be avenged.

Neil Druckmann did say there would be many parallels between Part 1 and Part 2, and although this might seem cheap at first, it puts us through something similar, something we experienced while playing Part 1. In a world filled with infected, a human takes Sarah away from Joel. In a world filled with infected, a human takes Dina away from Ellie.

We won't know what this game is about or what happens until we play it, but I'm starting to believe that this theory makes a lot of sense and I would understand why Naughty Dog would pursue this story.
