Museum flashback is really clicking now Posted: 10 Mar 2021 12:31 PM PST The firefly who wrote the note that Ellie found in the museum flashback was all because of Joel obliterating the fireflies and causing them to disband. His disillusion with the mission of the fireflies is largely in part to due Joel's destruction. Had Joel not intervened, they would have realized their mission of finding a vaccine. But Ellie doesn't know this when she reads it, and similarly when she sees the mural defaced with "LIARS". Meanwhile, when Joel sees her fixated on the mural, he knows that Ellie's further investigation will only lead to his own lie being exposed, and tries to remove her from the area. I can imagine her mind must be going wild in that moment. There is so much subtext in that scene that I did not pick up on at first, and how it relates all the way back to the incident in Salt Lake City [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Mar 2021 03:43 PM PST Wow, phenomenal. I think in terms of the quality of storytelling and character development, this one supercedes part I. I've never played a video game with such an immersive and stunning way to tell a story. I love how empathising with Joel, Ellie and Abby is morally never black and white no matter what side you come from. What an amazing way to make viewers feel conflicted. I think it is true that Abby's chapter was slightly tiresome, and I didn't fully understand her drive to save Yara and Lev which was the weakest part of the story for me. Regardless, I really enjoyed the back and forth weaving of the story, like how only halfway through does Abby arrive into the theatre and you're dying to find out what happens only as you begin Abby's chapter! A perfect example of that as well is the ending scene, where you learn that Ellie and Joel did reconcile only the night before his death. The writers really played tricks on you as well. In the scene of the barn dance you see Ellie lose her temper with Joel and tells him to leave her alone, and you assume those were their last words. You play through the last quarter of the game thinking how devastating their last words were because they were angry ones. And only at the very end do you learn they were actually going to attempt to make up! A double blow! I'm continually astounded with the production value of video games nowadays and the last of us II is a perfect example of it. Thank you Naughty Dog! [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:17 AM PST Anybody else's heart shatter when they realise that the day after Ellie promises to start to try and forgive Joel, Ellie mentions to Dina during their patrol that she was going to ask Joel to watch his favourite movie with her?? [link] [comments]

What’s your best head canon about TLOU universe? Posted: 10 Mar 2021 11:08 AM PST Based on what Lev said about the Seraphites before the founder died, I tend to think that the founder was a true progressive visionary, who set up a true 'Haven' away from the infected, and appealed to her followers with how Humanity needed to return to a more basic existence in order to ensure true happiness. Like a huge Taoist retreat. I believe that the original Seraphites would have accepted Lev as he was, and he wouldn't have needed to run away. [link] [comments]
TLOU2 Story details you didn't notice the first time Posted: 10 Mar 2021 05:33 AM PST Hi y'all, just got done with a fourth playthrough on grounded plus and I'm surprised that I still found forehsadowing or story details that I didn't pick up before Here were some: 1) When going through Eugene's hideout, I found his wife's letter where she begs him to leave the Fireflies. She specifically states that the Fireflies and their cause shouldn't be more important than their family. At the very end of the game, Dina says the same thing to Ellie about Abby, a Firefly. 2) During Ellie Day 1, it's possible to listen in on two WLF soldiers talking about deserters. At first this and a list of deserters found on Ellie Day 2 seem to only be worldbuilding. However, the list is likely old since it's retrieved from infected who seem like they turned long ago. I realized that the WLF soldiers must have been talking about desertion due to their latest deserter: Owen. This parallels with what Ellie can overhear on Day 2 with the Seraphites talking about Lev 3) For a while, I wondered if Abby ever found out about Nora, Leah, and Jordan getting killed. Then I realized during the scene where she finds Ellie's map that the names of Leah and Nora are written down. She can also find Leah's bloody photos in the theater's radio room, which I already knew before but I didn't think she would make the leap to thinking that the Jackson trespassers had killed her whole group. However, after finding the map near Mel and Owen's bodies, she likely came to that conclusion. 4) During the aquarium flashback, the note from the boat captain's son mentions a Seraphite saying: "Only when weak, may I carry my true strength". The whole letter is about the son admonishing his dad for not taking revenge on the WLF for killing his mom and the son uses the saying to show how the Seraphites understand the importance of retaliation/revenge. But on Abby Day 2, Lev uses the same saying but in a completely different way. He says it to Abby in order to encourage and calm her while they take the elevator to the skybridges. In one moment, the saying is used out of spite and hatred and, in another, it's used out of kindness and empathy. I liked the duality! That's stuff i noticed after four playthroughs, how about y'all?
