❗️ A NEW UPDATE: PHOTO MODE MONDAYS & FRIDAYS! ❗️

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:38 AM PDT

    Heya folks!

We've been listening to your feedback regarding our last mod post on Photo Mode Mondays, and we're happy to announce that we'll be adding another day into the week where you can send more of your photos! We will now be having PHOTO MODE MONDAYS AND FRIDAYS! These are for both TLOU Part I and Part II photos, and the timezone is still Pacific Standard Time (PST).

Again, please do not submit Photo Mode posts outside these days because they will get removed. Note that the "Only two (2) posts every 12 hours" rule still applies!

Should you need to bring up a concern, let us know here or in the mod mail! We hope you appreciate the changes!

i just want to express how happy i am that the community seems to be mostly happy about this game now, i'm happy that people love abby just as much as i do and i'm happy i got to experience this masterpiece. there has never been a piece of media that's affected my emotional state like this game has. to this day i find myself singing joel's song and take on me randomly. The process of drawing my favorite girl Ellie

Yeah IMO this is the greatest story ever told in any video game series ever.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:11 PM PDT

About in hour into my second story playthrough and I haven't touched the game since I beat it like 4 months ago because I was so emotional afterwards. I've played a lot of single-player story games and this one easily takes the cake for my #1 favorite. Just felt like sharing my opinion because I know the game gets a lot of hate for reasons I will never understand.

On my first play through I had just figured out what I needed to do and this happened at the same exact time. THANKS DINA.

    Abby, Owen, and that scene

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:42 AM PDT

    Spoilers throughout...

That sex scene is rather awkward, no? It seems most people are down with the idea that Owen is, more or less, Abby's 'Dina'. Owen and Dina are both characters that have strong attachments to our protagonists, but also a level of distance from their respective obsessions. And importantly, both are willing to leave our protagonists. Their commitment to themselves to pursue something resembling a meaningful life outweighs their commitment to our protagonists. Dina leaves (with potato), while Owen gets involved with Mel and is on the verge of leaving. These characters may not be perfect, but they represent a positive affirmation of life, and their progressive alienation from our protagonists emphasises how much Ellie and Abby have lost in their pursuit of vengeance.

So I get the impression that most folks are down with Abby's character arc and how Owen intersects with that. He's a dreamer, and not a soldier. The sanctuary he creates in the aquarium, the yacht he's fixing up, Christmas overlooking the Harbor, taking Abby up on the Ferris wheel. Owen is dissatisfied with the cruel, violent world that he finds himself in, and he wants to escape. He wants Abby to join him on that emotional and physical journey, but though she likes Owen, her need for vengeance is all-consuming and leaves no room for whimsical pursuits. She hunts for clues as to Joel's whereabouts, transforms herself into a weapon, and gives herself over to the WLF and its nihilistic conflict with the Seraphites.

So far, so good. Owen offers Abby an outreached hand, but she is unable to take it. And then she does. It's that transition that I haven't seen much discussion about, and why I think the scene between Abby and Owen at the boat is so important. But first we must acknowledge the emotional context: Abby hasn't fared well since torturing and murdering Joel. She still has nightmares, and some of her friends, notably Mel, are looking at her rather differently these days. "What kind of monster could do that?" she puts to Mel, rhetorically. But the question is in her head. And so we arrive at the boat, the physical symbol of Owen's desire to escape what Abby is still only dimly uncomfortable with. Owen shares his desolation and Abby is visibly moved, but quickly hides it.

Abby's internal turmoil isn't enough to turn her from her path. Her encounter with Yara and Lev, being introduced to these Seraphites as human beings to whom she owes some obligation, isn't enough. Owen's outstretched hand isn't enough, nor is his sharing of his anguish. These are all stepping stones to Abby's "turning the corner", but insufficient in and of themselves. What finally tips the balance is also what precipitates the sex scene: Owen, at last, directly calls out Abby on her shit: "How do I [grow up], Abby? Should I go find the people that killed my family? Cut into 'em? I could torture them until they're crying in their own…" Owen hurls his anger and disappointment at Abby and it hits home because she knows that it's true. And in that recognition there's another message: Owen sees Abby.

The sex scene that follows is not romantic and isn't intended to be. It's punishing and cathartic. And it's the external representation of the emotional shift in Abby's character arc. Her nightmare that ends with a vision of Yara and Lev in the forest and which leads her to return for them follows immediately after, and the rest is history.

I apologise if this is all conventional wisdom but I really hadn't seen much discussion of this stuff.

    A Tommy DLC...

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:03 AM PDT

This gets posted 1000 times a day on this sub but it does have a great potential, you could show us Tommy's 3 days in Seattle and like Part 2, have flashbacks to really deepen what Joel's loss meant to him specifically. As in the last five years he got his relationship with his brother back and saw him happy with a daughter again (just like before the outbreak). One thing i'd do is have the flashbacks with Joel, Sarah and Tommy's life before the outbreak. There's a lot of story potential in my opinion

Holy shit, I just finished part II and it was the best fucking gaming experience I ever had. The complexity of the characters, the amount of interpretations you can make, the feelings this game evokes. Hands down the best game of this generation, if you didn't try it yet, do it. 10/10, still picking my jaw up from the floor.

    A frustrating criticism of Abby

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 03:19 AM PDT

"Why go through all of that to get the medical supplies just for Yara to die."

If that's the case why go after Owen. He's going to die. Joel's going to die why do anything for him. What's the point of doing anything in the game. Everyone's going to die eventually. Why eat. You're going to die right so......what's the point.

    Funniest lines from part 2?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 12:40 PM PDT

What do you think are some of the funniest lines from TLOU 2?

My favorites are "what a little bitch" and "that's a big boy." The delivery for them is just so perfect.
