    For my LGBTQ+ friends

    Posted: 01 May 2020 01:58 AM PDT

So either some people have never played the DLC or are just genuinely clueless and don't understand gay people exist in the real world but either way, the amount of homophobia and transphobia that came about ever since that trailer dropped is... scary. News flash, shes always been gay. Going on twitter or reading replies to some youtube comments litteraly makes me sick. So this is for the people part of my community who have had to read and digest some of the most vile things I've seen about an innocently gay girl. Im sorry. I wish it were different but i'm sure it comes as no shock to you.

Even though it can be very discouraging, there is a long way to go in terms of where we should be as a gaming community. Either way I'm so excited for this game. Don't let the noise get to you. Please don't feel alone there are many of us here and ready to play this game about a girls journey who just happens to be a big ol lesbian.

Ellie is a bit paranoid... Like girl no one is there, relax

Neil should just stay away from all social media at this point until June 19th

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 11:42 AM PDT

(No Spoilers) Why do I get the feeling the people with loudest voices on twitter showing hate towards The Last Of Us 2, have never actually played Last Of Us.

    Posted: 01 May 2020 08:19 AM PDT

I've noticed a large amount of nasty homophobic tweets, regarding the characters and plot of the second game. But the people I've noticed who claim to be "fans" don't seem like they've even played the first game. They've only jumped on the hate train because everyone else did. If they had actually played the first game, they would know Ellie is gay and that's apart of who she is as a character.

I support Ellie and Neil [SPOILERS FOR LEFT BEHIND]

    Posted: 01 May 2020 05:41 AM PDT

First, a quick thank you to the mods and amazing people here for keeping us as spoiler free as possible. Keep on being amazing.

I first played the last of us and left behind in 2015, a couple of years before I came out to my family and friends. Not only did this game introduce me to the PS4 and a world of games I had never tried, but Ellie was gay. When I played the DLC, I cried, because in a time when I had no one, I suddenly felt less alone. Now as a happy, out gay woman who has been in long term relationships, and has built up a wall against the hate, watching the kiss trailer for part II reminded me of that feeling.

In spite of all the homophobia and transphobia, the vitriol being spewed Ellie, Neil, and Naughty Dog's way, this game is incredibly meaningful to so many people, for so many different reasons.

I think it's easy to feel awful about all the homophobia/transphobia, and it's important to call it when we see it. But honestly it makes me even more excited to buy and play Ellie's story; an f you to the bigots. There will always be hateful people, but as long as others continue to tell our stories and represent our community, we are stronger than them. Who knows how many young people this game will help in terms of accepting themselves, and standing strong against bigotry?

Thank you to everyone who supports Ellie, her sexuality, and her story; this support resonates with real lgbt people, and we will remember that.

5 minutes in and I have the big sad. (new to the game)

Let’s all give Neil Druckmann some positivity!

Recorded from YouTube so no spoilers! But let’s not forget this haunting trailer that started it all. 8 years later, and I still get chills.

On the topic of 'forced representation'

    Posted: 01 May 2020 09:09 AM PDT

There is only male and the 'forced' gender

There is only white or a 'forced' race

There is only straight or a 'forced' sexual orientation

Can we please stop thinking like this? Straight white male isn't some sort of default state of being. People who deviate from that do not need to justify their existance, we simply do. If you're the kind of person who says someone's race, gender or sexuality needs to be properly justified in order to exist in a piece of fiction, what you're really saying is that you're a racist, sexist, homophobic dickhead.

    There are 2 Options

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 04:16 PM PDT

    A) Naughty Dog suddenly started making hot garbage out of the blue after decades of smash hit games and consistent quality.

    B) Gamers are moaning about something and blowing it way out of proportion, something which has, of course, never happened in the history of the world.

I am just so torn between these two possibilities, which could it be???

    This seems like a no-brainer...

    Posted: 01 May 2020 08:27 AM PDT

But try not to let the angry, outspoken minority of the fanbase influence your buying decision for 'Part II'. Some are even going as far as to DM spoilers to every individual that post on this subreddit. Talk about being petty as fuck.

I'm getting the game on day 1, despite being spoiled (Twitter comments). Hell, being spoiled actually made me more curious and excited about the game and wanting to play it even more.

Also, thank you mods for making this subreddit one of the few places that is free of spoilers about 'Part II'.

    Endure and survive.

I have beaten Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, but I have never played The Last of Us. Should I do my first playthrough on grounded?

    Posted: 01 May 2020 04:13 AM PDT

I guess this is mostly a question for the mods since everything has been locked.

TLOU Part 2 DLC Idea (no spoilers for Part 2)

    Posted: 01 May 2020 05:20 AM PDT

First, I want to say that I 100 percent trust ND with the game. I pre-ordered it yesterday and I know I won't regret it.

Now, let's get to the DLC.

Ever since I heard Joel and Tommy arguing in the first game, I wanted to see their first few years since the outbreak. I think it would be awesome if we got to play as a younger Tommy or Joel let's say five years after he outbreak (if Joel wasn't in Boston by then). Seeing them struggle to survive and learning about clickers for the first time would be awesome. There would be more human enemies than in the first game than infected.

I don't know, this is something I would love to see.

[PART 1 SPOILERS] [NO SPOILERS FOR PART 2] An Important Take on Spoilers

    Posted: 30 Apr 2020 09:56 PM PDT

We are all aware that the story and major plot points of the game were leaked online this past weekend. We know that people who don't have anything better to do have been trying to spoil everyone they can through DMs and Twitter comments. Hell, even YouTube is still getting the leaked clips uploaded every day.

But, everyone need to understand that a story is much more than its major plot points. Anything will look bad if you just show someone the major plot points. Let me give an example:

    (Spoilers for Part 1)

    • Disastrous zombie outbreak happens

    • Man's daughter is killed on the night of the outbreak

    • Man is now a criminal smuggler

    • Man is tasked with smuggling a girl

    • Man succeeds but decides to keep the girl after long journey

There. See? I shared the biggest plot points of TLOU1. See how it sounds like some cheap, crappy indie zombie movie? It doesn't sound special at all.

What made TLOU (and any story, frankly) worthwhile is the context provided by what we don't get. In that description, we don't get that Joel is still grieving Sarah. We don't get that the journey was long and tough and taxing. We don't get that crucial relationship between Joel and Ellie. We don't get the quiet moments where we learn to love both of the characters.

Sure, maybe you don't like the picture that the spoilers paint, but you must know that that picture isn't representative of the full product.

Iirc, people had very similar reactions to Marvel when the ending of Infinity War leaked. Nobody liked the idea of the bad guy winning. How could that happen when every story is supposed to wrap up nicely for the heroes in the end? The context provided by the story was what made the ending as perfect and memorable as it was.

If you aren't sure about buying Part 2, at least wait for the reviews to start coming out. Naughty Dog care far more about these characters than any of us can, and wouldn't have made the story they made if they believed it wouldn't be a good continuation of the story. They genuinely believe that they're doing these characters right.

TL;DR: spoilers aren't representative of the game in its totality. Wait for reviews if you aren't sure about whether or not you want to buy the game in light of the leaked spoilers.
