How much scarier do you think Part II will be?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 08:13 PM PST

I saw in an interview with Neil Druckman that they wanted to do a lot more with stalkers in the second game. I'm replaying the first game for the 3rd time, so I know exactly what happens. But OMG any part with the stalkers just still scares the crap out of me every time!

I really don't like horror games/movies, but I forced myself to finish TLOU cause I was truly enjoying it. For pacing purposes alone, I know that they will give you a breath of fresh air after a particularly scary scene. But I have a feeling that they have gotten better at it and are going to double down on the tension and horror aspects of the 2nd game. What do you guys think?

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best looking game currently out. How will The Last of Us: Part II be compared to it?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 01:04 PM PST

RDR2 seems like the only game that can "compete" with The Last of Us Part II in terms of visuals and animations, but I belive that The Last of Us: Part II will top it*. Here's why:

The gameplay animations of RDR2 are one of, if not the best animations in any game. Every action that your character does in this game has a dedicated accurate animation, and there is a dedicated blending animation to transition from your current pose to the animation you want to achive. It's THAT detailed. The game has thousands of animations, but still manages to have a seemless, fluid transition between all of those animations. While Rockstar strived to make the animations in RDR2 as realistic as possible, Naughty Dog took a different approach with TLoU P2.

Because of the complexity of the animations in RDR2, the game feels unintuitive and unresponsive, which makes the gameplay slower and, in a way, a bit annoying. The realism in the game's animations interrups the rythim of the gameplay. In TLoU P2, while Naughty Dog also strived for realism and fluidity in the transitions from animation to animation, they didn't do it in a way that interrupts the rythim of the gameplay, they did it in a way that enhances the gameplay.

For example, if ellie were to pick up parts, there isn't an extremely accurate animation that will slow down the pace of the game. Instead, ellie just sends her hand to where the parts are, and they automatically appeaer in her hand, and then gets into her backpack. It's not as realistic as RDR2's anumations, but it's faster and more instantanious. Instead, Naughty put their focus on the more important actions, such as combat animations, and did all they could to make the animations in combat more realistic, fluid, and interesting, while still keeping the game responosive, instantanious and snappy.

Putting their focus on combat animations caused the melee animations look way better than those in RDR2. The hits feel more impactful due to the great hit animations, where the enemies response accuratly to ellie's hits, and with the awsome blood effects, it all creates a very satifying hand to hand combat system. Another part where the melee animations in TLoU P2 surpasses RDR2's animations, is variety and contextuality.

In RDR2 the animations have good hit reaction, but they all play out the same. It's always just punching untill someone blocks, then the ounching continues untill someone falls down. If you run towards somebody and hit punch, arthur will stick him to the ground and punch him untill he dies. That's pretty much it and it stays the same for all of the 50+ hours of your gameplay, and a few hours, it makes the good animations a bit boring after the 50th time you watched it due to lack of variety, no matter how impressive it is (the last statement works for the rest of RDR2's animations as well).

In TLoU P2 howerver, different encounters causes different animations, depanding in the enemy type, the weapons the characters use, or how the enviorment looks. The wide range of weapons require different animations to different weapons, which adds variety in the animations. The fighting is contextual to the enviorments, and ellie will slam enemies into walls and desks, or evade into cars, depanding on the enviorments, so the fights will feel more grounded in the world and will differ from previous encounters that took place in a differnt enviorment. every action the player commands the character to do has a few ways its animation could play out. All of this adds variety and intetest in combat, and it keeps it refreshing every time you play it and make it more visually eppealing.

Naughty Dog manages to have all this complexity in the animation system, while still keeping the game responsive and intuitive, with the help of smart planning, the new motion matching system, and a lot of hard work.

Regarding to visuals, character models and facial animations look way better in TLoU P2 than it is in RDR2. RDR2 has great character models and facial animations, But in TLoU2 it's a few steps beyond. There is something in the skin texture and the facial animations that makes it look better. The level of detail is on another level, and the eyes especially looks great. This makes the cutscenes, which rely on character interaction, to look way better in TLoU P2 than it is in RDR2.

In terms of enviorments, RDR2 is a hard competitor. It has the best looking inviorments in any game I have played, and the draw distance creates amazing views and scenery which will be hard for TLoU2 to top (and in some footage we have seen, it seems like RDR2 has the upper hand regarding to breathtaking views), but even if it won't be better in terms of graphics, I think that The Last of Us Part II will end up being a more impressive visual experience, due to its linearity.

Not just because linearity means less objects need to load at the same time (the devs said that this game will be very open compared to the first game, so I don't think that there will be much difference between both games in that regard), but mainly because the linear approach allows mire freedom in level design, and this can give the developers a lot of tools to set the scene as good as it could get, due to the control the devs on the scene.

You can adjust the lighting and time if day to be at the exact state that compliments the most the scenery. You can do tweaks to the framing when you dedicate a lot of thoughts to the design when it's just one single level, but when this level has to be a part from an open world, it is way harder to do. You can create crazy background views, because the player isn't required to be able to walk on those mountains in the distance.

But what linearity allows that really elevates it from an open world design is variety. You can have one level set in snowy mountains, the next one in a massive abandonned city, and the other in a small villiage inside a beautyful forest. You can get some variety in an open world game, but since it all need to make sense in the settings of the world map, you can't go crazy in enviorment variety. When you go for a linear design, you have way more freedom in the locations you want the player to explore, which will present a more visually refreshing experience.

*everything I am saying about The Last of Us: Part II is based on all of the trailers releaesed, the footage from the media event, interviews made with the devs, and Naughty Dog's recent releases and overall stability in quality.

About to purchase one from a seller but I'd like to make sure it's in perfect condition before buying. I have heard that some parts like the bullets are commonly broken off. Does anyone have pictures of a perfect condition one to compare?

Is Left Behind essential for tlou part II?

I know part 2 hasn't been released yet, so it's impossible to tell but I've never played left behind just the vanilla game and wondered if it makes a huge difference to what part 1 concluded

    Ellie and Drugs

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 09:39 PM PST

In the latest Last of Us Part II trailer we see Dina indulging in some cannabis when a storm traps her in an old store alongside Ellie while doing a supply run. Its presumed Ellie also indulges in the cannabis.

My question is: Will there be a choise to accept/decline the cannabis or not.

If we look back at the DLC "Left Behind" Riley offers Ellie some alcohol and you were given the choise to accept or decline it. Will these choices make a return in The Last of Us Part II and would you like these choices to make a return as well

    The Seraphites worship Ellie?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 08:29 AM PST

I have a theory about Ellie being worshiped by the Seraphites. I think the Seraphites have heard of Ellie's Immunity and they're looking for her to perform some ritual to save humanity but they don't know what she looks like! I don't think the Seraphites are just some annoying religious group. I think they have a purpose to do which is to find Ellie by any means necessary! That's why Ellie made sure to hide that bite mark with acid + a tattoo.
