- I'm really happy that they picked Ashley Johnson to play and be the voice of Ellie. It has been an incredible journey so far. I can't wait to see what's to come in Part II. The trailers keep on giving me goosebumps. Agree to disagree..so, what other actress would you guys prefer?

But but but consider this - we don't know exactly what the devs are faced with at the moment. I appreciate that ND are also taking their employees wellbeing into account. Personally I'd rather a game that was polished out properly than rushed and full of issues (which in turn causes more work for devs) We just have to respect this decision. The game will come out. Posted: 24 Oct 2019 08:40 PM PDT The Last of Us was released on June 14, 2013. Then Part II was announced at PSX 2016 on December 3, 2016. Finally, Part II is scheduled to release on May 29, 2020. There were 1,268 days from when the first game came out until the announcement of Part II. Now there will be 1,273 days from the announcement of Part II to its release. Posted: 24 Oct 2019 11:36 AM PDT Up until THIS point, we were all, including the developers, confident the game would be the best it could be by February. Now we know different. And that is a good thing, because the game was never going to be the best it could be by February. Now we can all breathe a sigh of relief that ND truly have the balls to put their reputation on the line out of love for this game. No matter your opinion on crunch time and developers' work conditions, we can be happy that the amazing team at ND aren't being put under more stress than they are already. Whether we know it or not, we are expecting a near perfect, if not perfect game. ND prioritise delivering that over everything else, and that cannot be rushed, no matter the consequences for us. I read Neil's blog and you can just tell how difficult it was for him to put out. But it's out of love for the game he did it. Endure and Survive guys, this game's gonna rock our fucking world. Thoughts on Environmental Variety and its Impact on the Player in The Last of Us Part II? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 04:17 PM PDT Prior to the announcement of *The Last of Us Part II* almost three years ago, one of the major caveats I had with the possibility of Naughty Dog developing a sequel to their best game – aside from not feeling a need to revisit Joel and Ellie's relationship – was that such a game would struggle to recapture the magic that so many of us felt when scanning our torches over dilapidated and overgrown environments whilst exploring the post-pandemic United States for the first time. Not only did *The Last of Us* flaunt its world in almost every form of weather (be it rain, snow, fog or sunshine), but there was a stunning variety of settings for the player to explore – ranging from the slums of an operational quarantine zone to a decimated settlement hidden inside a sewer. I feel like most of the major locales I'd want to see in this world were showcased in the original game. There were no areas that I was itching to see in a would-be sequel. Sure, *Left Behind* (the two-hour DLC) included a mall, but other than a Halloween store and Merry-Go-Round there wasn't much else memorable about the additional glimpse at *TLoU*'s world. So, having been absent from this community for a few months (and missing the initial reaction to last month's 'media blowout'), I thought I'd check the pulse of this subreddit now that the hype has died down to see how excited people are about the levels that have been shown thus far. Other than the Jackson dance flaunted in the E3 2018 gameplay demonstration (well, cutscene) and the brief flash of Ellie and Dina walking down a street in the Jackson settlement during the 2019 'release date' trailer, everything else shown has been more or less the same as what we explored in the original game. *Part II*'s winter section, as shown to the press, largely resembles the original game's winter section and the mall in *Left Behind* (even going so far as to have Ellie and Dina explore the ransacked shelves of a Weston's pharmacy). Everything else – including the scenes flaunted in the 2016 Reveal Trailer and 2017 Paris Games Week cutscene – has either featured overgrown suburbs or forest locales. I did like the brief glimpse of Ellie traversing a submerged locale by boat, which screams *God of War*-style exploration in a small hub-like setting, but nothing else has really grabbed me. It's a bit like how I felt in *Red Dead Redemption II* -- yes, I recognise that this environment looks natural and beautiful, and that lots of work went into making it, but, after a while, it's 'just' an abandoned cabin and it's 'just' a mountainside to me. The overall 'impact' of the environment was lost because I'd already explored similar locales in the original game, which ultimately left a far greater impression on me as a player because they felt *fresh*. Consequently, I have two questions for you all:
Also, seeing as I missed the initial reaction to the so-called 'media blowout', how did we respond as individuals and as a subreddit to the new informaion? For me, I felt like the media impression was a little… muted? Like, they recognised that the game was fun and the minor improvements to the game have the potential to radically change how players approach setups (I like the inclusion of the dogs and how they force you to keep moving), but many of the critics I saw commenting on the game seemed to enjoy what they played but weren't overwhelmed by it (aside from Greg Miller and Michael Huber, both of whom have an infatuation with Naughty Dog and were gushing with praise as you'd likely expect). I know a lot of excitement is being geared towards the plot, especially by Druckmann and Gross, but we had a similar situation with *Uncharted 4*. Yes, that game's story and cutscenes were more ambitious and mature than previous entries in the series, but the gameplay also felt more restrained and less ambitious so that the game could service such a narrative. Hopefully *Part II* doesn't fall into a similar trap. Lastly, I assume we're all in agreement that Part II's 'revenge plot' is misdirection? Presumably (especially given the bruises Ellie suffers in the most recent trailer) the inciting incident is sexual assault of some kind (as opposed to Tommy, Jesse, Joel or Dina being murdered by Fireflies). Likewise, I imagine that the initial impetus for 'revenge' will be dealt with relatively early in the plot, and that the consequences of her actions are what provide the twists and turns -- especially when Ellie encounters people who are similarly pursuing (or escaping from) those who initially wronged her. Ah, I'm rambling at this point. I'm sure it's all been dissected anyway. Best to stay on track... TL;DR Are you impressed by the environments shown in *Part II*'s marketing campaign thus far? If so, which ones and why? Do you think that revisiting similar environments from the original game – subways, malls, offices, quarantine zones – will detract from your enjoyment of exploration in *Part II*?
