I got a similar version of Ellie's tattoo to cover up some self harm scars and I wanted to share it. I'm so in love with it! Endure and survive, friends. There's always hope. :)

Unspoken storytelling: Why Mel gets called to the FOB

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 09:21 AM PDT

I've seen a lot of anti-P2 people say, "The WLF would never let a pregnant woman go into battle! So unrealistic! Plot hole! Zero out of ten!" Took me this long to realize why Mel gets put in har's way.

At the stadium Manny says, "What are you get called up for?" and Mel says, "It's just a usual rotation, don't worry," and scoffs like shes hiding something. And on the truck ride, she clearly has Owen on her mind, saying he's been taking on extra assignments. I feel silly for not catching this sooner, but she asked to get called up to get closer to Owen! None of them expected the ambush, so combat wasn't a given. It was supposed to be a quick ride over. She was just trying to get to the FOB so she could see Owen and maybe figure out why he's avoiding her.

I could talk all day long about the unspoken storytelling in this game. Like how Owen is characterized similar to Jerry which is why Abby loves him, but also why she can't commit herself to him while Joel is alive. And how the image of literal blood on Ellie's hands evokes the image of Joel's last moments and pushes Ellie to fight Abby. And how Lev wears Cons in Santa Barbara so for a second, we're made to think the camera is showing Ellie's feet until it pans up. I think there are some valid criticisms with this game that I personally don't agree with, but I do think a lot of critics got whooshed by the storytelling.
