Yet another thing to look forward to. NO SPOILERS!!!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty darn excited to see all the BTS footage that will come out after release. There was A LOT of it with part 1. Everything from the dev's, Neil, Troy, Ashley and so on.

Getting to hear about the best/hardest scenes and just how hard the dev's worked will no doubt be a good watch! I really hope they aren't put off by the tiny amount of people crying online that the game is bad because it doesn't fit in with their crappy fan fiction.

    Grounded Observations

    Posted: 16 May 2020 10:29 AM PDT

Grounded is the hardest difficulty. We all know that. There's no HUD, even less supplies, and virtually everything kills you in one hit. But there's a few bits and pieces of information I've collected to help explain just why it's so hard.

Just to start things off simply, enemies are more sensitive to sound and sight. When you get the ambience that you're about to be spotted, it happens much faster. Also, Ellie's "stealth" kills pretty much always alert everyone.

Damage is adjusted drastically. Joel (with no health upgrades) dies in two revolver bullets or three 9mm shots. Ellie dies in one revolver shot or two 9mm bullets (Ellie takes a bit more bullet damage than Joel). Additionally, Joel dies in two punches (no health upgrades) and Ellie dies in one punch. My favorite part is that enemies combo punches, so you pretty much always die when an enemy swings first. Enemies with machetes/axes always kill the player in one hit.

On the bright side, non-armored enemies die in one revolver shot or two 9mm shots (hint: shoot armored enemies in the legs). Everything stronger than that one-shots both the protagonists and the enemies. Rarely Joel/Ellie live anyway, albeit inexplicably.

Here's the fun part. So, when you're grabbed (or in bloater spores) you take damage continuously until you either escape the grab (or escape the spores), or it takes too long and you die regardless of heath. That applies on every difficulty. The damage you take is called tick damage. There are 3 ticks per second, and you take damage on each tick. On easy, this damage is about 3. On normal, it's ~5, hard ~10, and survivor it's 20. Guess what it is in grounded? 25.

To put this into perspective, Joel has 100 health, and grabs will last at least 3 ticks, no matter what. So, if you preemptively mash very fast before the enemy grabs you, you will survive with 25 health left. But, doing that is extremely hard - and you will always die if you try to mash on reaction, regardless of your speed. If you upgrade your health once to 120, you will survive 4 ticks instead and can mash on reaction, but you still need to be fast. If you upgrade your heath again, you can survive 5 ticks - I'd call 5 ticks about average for casuals to escape grabs.

Ellie is particularly vulnerable to grabs for this reason - if you're playing through any of the Ellie sections and have the option to run past the enemies... do it. Seriously. If an enemy grabs you (which they do way more often than Joel), it's death 9 times out of 10 because humans will often grab Ellie either from behind, or when she's up close and running past. It's a bit hard to react to either of these things, and since you can't upgrade Ellie's max health... GG (side note: if you can run past enemies, regardless of Joel or Ellie, do it).

Okay, enough of the grab explanation. One last thing - supplies are essentially gone completely, aside from supplements, parts, gold books, and collectibles, which appear no matter what. Strongly suggest doing the free shivs glitch early in the game so you can pop open a few shiv doors to get more supplements for max health upgrades (every other upgrade besides weapon sway is useless. Shiv master is also dumb, explained here. Crafting speed is unnecessary since you'll only craft 2 or three things in a whole playthrough; healing speed is useless since you might get one health kit if you're lucky + dying in 3 shots anyway).

Does anyone know if there are any “birds eye view” versions of the Last of Us Maps?

Do I really gotta do it all again?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 11:36 PM PDT

So I'm aiming at getting a couple of the collectibles trophies this run through of the game, but I just missed an item I got on a past run when trying to get the all collectibles trophy. So do I need to get everything in a single run to get the trophy, or does the game recognize I already got it in the past and I only need to find what I missed before this run? Thanks for any help y'all can give 👍

    My take on it

    Posted: 16 May 2020 08:59 AM PDT

The Last of Us is just a great fucking game.

    Posted: 16 May 2020 04:20 AM PDT

MINOR SPOILERS FOR PT1 I just love the game overall from its characters to its story. Here's why: It took a different approach on "the living dead" (even though infected arent dead they just can't control themselves). Everything was really just unexpected. They had no indication of where ambushes would be, they gave no hint to anything happening between Joel and Ellie. And for the cherry on top: the acting felt very very real. It felt like they didnt half ass the acting in it. Naughty dog always made great games, and hopefully always will.
